My Life Was Never Quite Normal (CH. 4)
Rasi and Hughes are stuck at a standstill. How will they ever make it home?

Chapter 4
I just couldn’t believe it! How could they leave and completely forget about Hugues and I? How were we supposed to get home? My house is like three hours away from the airport.
"Hugues, I think that we might have to hitchhike back to my house." I said. I felt sorry for him. His first day in America and he was already going through troubles.
"Is that safe?"
"Not really, but we have no other way of getting to my house. We’re just gonna have to be really careful about the people we accept rides from."
"I don’t know how you do it here in America, but I was taught never to put a female into clear and present danger. This is definitely a moment where I will need to step in and shake you from your temporary lapse in sound judgment."
"Yeah, well that’s not your responsibility!" I snapped. I immediately felt bad about yelling at him. He really only meant well.
"Yes, it is." He said so quietly that I almost thought that I was hearing things. Although, I’m pretty sure that was what he said, but why? How could what I do be his responsibility? Maybe it was just a French thing.
*Hugues*
"Yes, it is" I whispered, though I lamented saying it as soon as the words left my mouth. It was a good thing that I had come to America. Rasi was the most difficult person to care for. I’d known her for all of 45 minutes and she had already managed to insult me, hurt herself, get abandoned by her family, and completely charm me, which is not an easy thing to do.
I had to find another alternative for getting Rasi home. We definitely couldn’t hitchhike. Even in the best of places, it was still dangerous. What to do, what to do? Think! What’s the point of being a genius if you couldn’t even come up with a simple plan to get Rasi home?, I think to myself. Of course, I’ve never prided myself on being much of an intellect.
"We could call a taxi and pay them once we get to your house." I finally came up with a solution. I waited on needles to see what she would say to my proposal. I raised my eyes as if to say, well, and received a very pleasing thumb up. So, we were back in motion, on our way to Rasi’s house.

I’m sorry it is so short and that it took me so long to post this, but I was having a hard time in school. I needed to focus a bit more. I promise I will write a longer chapter soon. Begging you to keep reading my story, this is Jamie Bennett, signing off. Thanx!
p.s. be on the lookout for a short story I am currently writing. It’s called Journey No More.
