My Life

Just a song that came together, mostly about lessons I've learned along the way.
My life is kinda like an open book
Nothin’ on the cover but a broken heart
Where to start?
Me, I wouldn’t waste a single minute of mine
Reading on any of the first lines
There’s more beyond those lies
If you turn the page you’ll find the time
Nothin’ was better than the sidelines
Watching the love of my life touchdown
All those cheers, Never mind, don’t want it on my mind

On the 25th page is a big fat star
Sittin’ right next to the first guitar
That I ever did see
He was a music man up on the hill at the school
When he sat there on that stool
He struck a chord inside
None of the children liked that man
I guess they just didn’t really understand why
He wanted us to sing
All those kids, Never mind, don’t want it on my mind

If the 3rd chapter didn’t make me cry
I’d tell you all about the time
I just wanted to die
I guess he let the fire burn out that night
With hell to pay come morning light
But he was on his last dime
I was sittin’ in the bottom of a closet to hide
While he was waiting there on the bottom line
Why? Did you have to leave me behind
All those years, Never mind, don’t want it on my mind
~Chorus~
Time is long and harder oh,
Or it’s just short and sweeter, don’t you know
I haven’t got it tonight
Still tryin’ to find
Never mind
Don’t want it on my mind

If you turn the page to chapter 9
I’ll tell you ‘bout the time that I learned to fly… without any wings
The adrenaline rush from the fear inside
I watched myself from way up high
‘Til I made it back home
He was waiting for me just inside
On that leather jacket I cried
The last teardrop… touchdown
All those tears, Never mind, don’t want it on my mind

Further along, not quite the middle of the book
Just one sight was all it took for me
It was "meant to be"
Too young to see that "meant to be"
Isn’t really everything it seems to mean
Until you cross that line
One mistake is all it takes to know
That it’s one that it’s one that you’d never wanna make twice
Not that it wasn’t nice, just wasn’t right
Not at the time
Don’t want it on my mind

Let me tell you somethin’ you’re a friend of mine
If you wanna have her as a friend until the end of time
You better keep it in mind
With one long night comes a look in the eye
Any other lover couldn’t help it but to see behind
If she isn’t blind
Me, I lost some real good times in the last years of his 29
Why? He was a friend of mine
Just one night, Never mind, don’t want it on my mind
~Chorus~
