My Guardian Angels (Chapter Ten)

Maddie's life is going pretty sweet... until?
"Maddie! Maddie!! We must leave NOW." Agana screamed, barging into my room, three weeks after our meeting. I'd been going to school for almost that amount of time. I'd even had a job at a 7-Eleven type store called "Stop Quicky". But I was also learning that life as a witch wasn't simple. I was moving stuff in classrooms, accidentally casting spells just by trying to remember them. Ugh.

"What do you mean "leave"?" I say, pulling on my combat boots, and shoving my straightened hair out of my face.

"Leave. We have to go stop the Male." She said, leaning against my door frame "Everyone is packing. The school and your jobs think a huge thing has happened to the farm and we have to take several weeks from school and jobs to do this. In this town, it's A-ok. I find this farming stuff ridiculous now and days, but I was born when it was all we had, so I respect it." She checked out her perfect nails.

"So, what? You're saying this whole life I've built up here, I have to put it on hold?" I say. Slinging my backpack over my shoulder, and walking towards the door, shaking my head.

"Either that, or everyone you love, hate, and don't know are enslaved, or viciously murdered. And I'd sarcastically say 'Your choice', but, it's really not. You have fifteen minutes to pack one bag, and do whatever else you have to do." She left, slamming the door behind her. I didn't hear her footsteps as she retreated since she had learned the skill to silence her footsteps. I was learning, but with my combat boots, it was hard.

I plopped down on my back, then stared at my closet that would barely fill up a suitcase anyway. I'd gotten about two paychecks, and had gone shopping once.

My dresser and closet only consisted of these items:
- Three pairs of skinny jeans
- Two V necks
- Two spaghetti straps
- Three long sleeves
- One sweat shirt
- I'm not naming the bra and underwear count, but that's actually a large group
- Two set of sweats.
- Two sets of overalls
- Two pair of shorts
- Etc. - Eight mini bags of chips, three packs of gum, and four scrunchies.

I guess I could stuff some sweat shirts, and jeans into a bag. I walked down the hall to Joe's room. "Hey," I called softly, trying to gracefully lean against the door frame like Agana. I did like Joe - A lot. But nobody really knew. Except maybe Joseph, but I'm not sure about that.

"Hey. What's up?" He said looking up from his packing.

"I need to borrow a bag? I know that Abelia wouldn't give me one, even if I begged." I stated.

"Oh. Sure. Here." He said, smiling that charming, country boy smile, and tossing me a big black gym bag, with a strap.

"Thanks." I smile back. I stay a second longer to stare at him, and shove off the wall, going back to my room and packing.

I don't back much, I just pack a pair of sweats, all my clean underwear, two of my jeans, and all my tops. They fit snugly with some gum, chips, and all my scrunchies. I had a cell phone now, but it barely worked. I stuck it in the back pocket of my jeans anyway - so yes, I had all my jeans. And I was wearing Joseph's shirt today, with a cut black tank I stole from Abelia while washing her clothes.

I also had some hair ties, I'd just bought sprawled out on my nightstand with a canteen. We all had to have one. I stuffed that in my bag too, and tied my hair up, sticking the other ones up my already bracelet clad arms.

"Your fifteen minutes are up, little Maddie." I followed her reluctantly out the door, out the front, and into a sleek black van where everybody was waiting.

"Where are we going?" I asked sliding into the passenger seat, in front of Abelia, and horizontally from Joseph.

"The mountains and forests. Apparently all the big bad Male are scattered throughout there." Agana says, hitting the gas on the seven seater. Everyone was launched backward, slamming into the leather seats. I did a cry of pain under my breath as my pony tail slammed into my head.

"Why do we have to go so far?" Abelia whined "Can't these bastards just come to us?" She kicked my seat and I whirled around on her.

"If you do this throughout the whole car ride, this kicking thing, I swear, I will -" I began.

"If they come to us, we die. It's that simple. You know it is." Joseph said, rubbing his sister's arm, then pinching it when she kicked my seat again. She let out a protest, but then started texting all her friends and fiddling with her phone.

I had a few people I'd hung out with a lot, and when this was hopefully over, I would hang out with even more. I was smart, so I got along with the nerds, I was strong and fast, so the athletes like me, I was, I guess, pretty and slender, so guys liked me, I was sarcastic and odd, so the outcasts like me, so yes, I was well liked among school and the town. I texted people, and called them, and had a big lunch table, and I walked home with people, and hung out during my work breaks with cute guys, so I wasn't lonely, at all, but Abelia was the meanest, hottest, slut in the school, meaning she's the most popular.

Joseph, I ate lunch with his group. He was a skater, and I had amazing skills on any wheels-or blades, or anything really, I'd learned all over, and it had been fun. So when I showed them what I could do on a board, they freaked and I'd hung out with them all the time since. They make fun of Joe and I about living together. I won't name any jokes now, but you can probably guess.

We drove towards the mountains and I started getting a major migraine. I fell into a deep peaceful sleep.

Then I was launched forward through the front window shield...
Did you like it?
Yes.
No.
One more chapter, then I'll finally decide.
