Chapter 3: Goodbye

A month later.

"Honey, get up, Jake's family is downstairs and Fizz." Cameron's mother gently shook her until she opened her eyes. "Huh?" Cameron sat up, while her mom brushed a few strands of brown hair from her face. "They needed to talk to you." She said. "Okay." Cameron got up and wore her bunny slippers.
Once she got down, she was greeted by a bear hug by Jake and Fizz. "Oof!" Cameron grumbled. She looked at Jake's wet face. "Have you been crying again?" Cameron knew well if he just cried. Being friends for 6 years has its advantages. Jake automatically let go of the hug and wiped his face. Fizz went to the living room and laid down.

"How about we have breakfast first?" Mrs. Romero turned to Cameron's mom with a reassuring smile. "Yes, breakfast, who wants waffles and bacon?" Both the kids raised their tiny hands.
After eating breakfast, the whole family sat down at the living room. When everyone was settled, Mrs. Romero first said, "Cameron, dear. I have I something very important to tell you."
Cameron looked at Mrs. Romero with misty eyes. "I'm gonna break this down to you slowly. Okay?"
"Just say it; I'm not a kid anymore." Cameron giggled.
"Okay, you see, we have relatives in California, and they asked us to stay there." Mr. Romero said. "O-Okay... What's the catch?" She looks flustered. "See, they asked us to stay there for 5 years." Mr. Romero said slowly.

"So, you're saying that you're leaving?" Cameron said anxiously. Mrs. Romero and Cameron's mom stared at each other. "Oh, it's alright... At least Jake's staying, right, Jake?" She reassured. She stared at Jake's flustered face. Something's wrong here. "You see, dear, that's the thing we need to talk about." Mrs. Romero took Cameron's little hand and rubbed it lightly. "We need to take Jake with us."

As if a ghost just walked in front of them, the entire room fell silent, and then a tear slid down Cameron's face. "What do you mean take him with you? I mean, Jake can stay. He doesn't need to leave. He can't possibly leave me here alone. He's the only friend I have." Cameron began sobbing. "See?! Even Cammie doesn't want me to leave. I can stay here, Mom and Dad. I'll be fine-"

"No, Jake, you need to come with us." Mr. Romero said calmly. "But... But what about Fizz?" Cameron managed to ask. "See, Cammie, we're leaving Fizz with you. He can stay with you, as a remembrance." When Mrs. Romero said that, both the kids were crying already. "Now, now, it won't be long; we'll be back after 5 years. It's just a short time." Mr. Romero said as he stood up and wiped Cameron's face. "...but... but..." Cameron cried again, just as she was clearing down. "Oh... Stop crying, dear. Come here." Cameron's mother hugged her tightly. She can tell that the Romero family were standing up and starting to leave. Cameron automatically turned and started to chase the leaving family, but her mother's grip was tighter.

"Jake! Don't leave!" Cameron shrieked.

"Cammie! I'll be back!" Jake shouted, as they heard the car outside started and left.
The last sentence kept echoing in Cameron's ear. Her one and only best friend left and won't return for an eternity. How can she survive that? Not without Jake to make her laugh or to punch Logan, even though it was a once in a blue moon thing, still. Jake has been her shoulder to cry on, her geeky friend to teach her the assignments, well because he's a year older, he was her food.
