My Dear Waren - Chapter 3
Sorry it's been so long. Exams. I'm not sure I'm gonna continue this story so I'll need to know some people actually wants to know the end of this, at least 5 comments. Enjoy Chapter 3.
That night when I went to bed all I could think about was the conversation I'd had with Waren. Again his words swirl in my head and no matter how I hard I try to expel them they were burned into my brain forever.
"Now...you help me"
"What! Why me?"
"You're the only one who knows of me and what it is I seek."
"No, no way am I helping you find that guy Ter"
"Tay"
"WHATEVER!!! Count me out because after tonight you and this crazy story about cat people, sorcerers, and flying pigs are permanently erased from my mind, you hear me?"
"I never said anything about flying pigs that is just preposterous, and we are FELINES not cat people there is a vast difference."
"How?"
"We Felines are a far more highly evolved breed of cat. We possess not only animal characteristics but human as well which allows us to have strength and intellect also. Cat people to us are like cavemen to you they were more beast than man, thankfully they are extinct."
"Ugh, this is too much..." I put my head on my hands. It's a good thing I'm already on the floor or I would pass out.
"Girl, I do not care whether you like me or not for I can honestly tell you whatever your feelings are for me it is most likely mutual on my part." I raise my head to look at him and his eyes were even brighter than they were before. He walks to me and crouches to be even with my face.
"My people are in danger and I know nothing of the place Tay has placed me. My instincts tell me he is here and unfortunately I cannot..." He looks away but I already know what he was too prideful to say. He couldn't do this alone... So as much as I just want to have nothing to do with this I can't just leave him and act like nothing ever happened could I? What if everything he's saying is a lie? What if he's just some lunatic? I mean those yellow eyes could just be really awesome colored contacts.
"How do I even know all this is true?" I ask out loud. His eyes flare so I know I've insulted him but I have to know and I can tell he knows this too.
Slowly he stands up and when he's fully erect he bows his head, closes his eyes, and takes a deep breath. Releasing it, he lowers himself to the ground again and, to my astonishment, gracefully springs himself backwards out of the window.
I gasp and rush to get up and run to the window. He had grabbed a branch on the neighboring tree and was now doing a flyaway with his eyes still closed-my sister went through a gymnastic phase and I learned a lot of the moves when I watched to her practices. He flips off the branch and lands without a sound on the balls of his feet. Looking back up at me, he raises his brow. I was now aware that my mouth was hanging open like a fish.
I quickly shake myself out of it, "So what, you could just be a gymnast or something." He looks at me incredulously then sighs and rubs the space between his nose and eyes with one hand and rises up to grab the thick branch above him with the other. Thinking he was about to do more stunts I watch excitedly, but instead of raising himself up he breaks the branch off as easily as if it were a thin stick. Throwing it farther into the woods than any normal person would be able to.
"Are you satisfied now girl?" he asks.
"Ummm...yes?"
"Good, now back up." I do as he says and after moment he jumps back into the tree house.
"No more wasting time girl, will you help me or not."
"...I don't really have a choice do I" I ask sadly.
"Now you understand."
"How do we even find this guy?"
"Leave that to me girl, you are simply my guide to this strange world." For a second we just stare each other down, then I give a defeated sigh.
"Ok...but you have to agree to three things; first you will never show yourself to my family, EVER, you won't ever do anything without consulting me first, and lastly when I help you find this guy you do the rest on your own and I never see you again agreed?"
"Agreed."
"Good. Tomorrow you're telling me everything I need to know ok?"
"That is only fair."
Not really knowing what to do next I shift my feet for a second. He looks patiently at me and waits for further instruction. Finally I just head towards the hatch on the floor till a thought occurs.
"You can sleep here I guess." He looks around distastefully but shrugs. I head towards the hatch again.
"Oh and by the way," I say without stopping or looking back. "my name is Whitney, not girl." I close the hatch and climb down and finally head home. When I get there my mom asks questions of course. Where have you been? Why did it take you and hour and a half to get back? Where are the tool?
In the woods. I got lost. I couldn't find them. She looks unconvinced again but lets it go. I eat dinner, wash up, and then go to bed.
Now as I toss and turn in my bed all I wish for right now is that I can sleep all this away and that in the morning Waren and my newly appointed mission will be just some horrible dream...
I watched the girl, or Whitney, walk quickly to her home, to her family and how I wish I was her. I look up to the sky. Is my father alright? What about his men? The Villages? Has Tay killed them all? No, I will not believe that they are truly gone, my instinct tell me he is still here somewhere. Needing my rest I turn back towards the shabby excuse of shelter and wrinkled my nose. That girl's stench is everywhere in here, I will never get my proper rest. So I climb on the window sill and grab the edge of the roof and raise myself up. I will sleep up here tonight.
I lay back and watch the stars of their sky that looks a lot like my own back on my home and think about what I must do tomorrow. I wish I did not need that girl's help. Being assisted by any female, let alone a human, is dishonorable surely but there is no getting around it. Not only do I not know anything about this place I know nothing of its creatures. She must be my guide if I am to succeed in getting home. If she is not suitable for the job I can simply dispose of her and find someone else to help me.
Tomorrow I will find the place I landed and sniff out his scent and try to find him that way. Satisfied with my plans I turn to my side and finally fall into a deep dreamless sleep.
