My Burlesque Broken Heart - Chapter 3

Chapter three finally! Sorry for the wait! Hope you like it.
"How’d your interview go?" Brad asks, when I stomp into the hotel room.
"He’s just so infuriating! That stupid arrogant-" I rant, but Brad shakes his head at me, "Ugh!" I sigh and sit down on the bed. Since Eli ‘upgraded’ us to the suite we have one bed. "Fine. Him and Rachel were far from the happy married couple; They didn’t live together; there were money disputing issues, he thought she was cheating, with…" I paused looking through my notes, "Jesse Walker. He’s the accountant. We can check him out later. Now, let's get some sleep because tonight we’re going to party… Watch the kind of actions at the hotel."

Nodding, Brad ran over and jumped onto the bed, "You’re cool with this right? The whole bed thing? It doesn’t mean anything; I do have a girlfriend."
"Oooh you didn’t tell me you have a girlfriend! What’s her name? What’s she like? How long have you two been together?" I prod, and cross my legs beneath me.

Taking a deep breath, Brad begins, "Her name is Jane. We’ve known each other since we were kids, and we just decided to date about six months ago. She’s the most beautiful person I know, inside and out, she teaches high school writing. She has a few short stories published, and she’s working on a novel; she doesn’t think it’s good, but I read it and it’s amazing."

"I’d love to meet her some time," I smile at him. Brad and I met when I first started trying to get published. He was an investigator looking for a partner, and I was a writer just starting out. I wouldn’t be anywhere without him.

"She’s a huge fan of yours, I told her I work with you, and she freaked. She can’t wait to meet you too." Brad smiled back, so I can’t help but wonder why we hadn’t already met. I mean, sure I haven’t introduced any guys to him, but I haven’t gone out with any guys for more than two dates… Brad’s attractive, I’m sure he’s had lots of girlfriends, but I’ve never met one. Not even one. "Well, let’s get some sleep like you said." Brad added and laid back on the bed once again, this time facing away from me.

"You look fine. Can we please go now? Plus this isn’t a social event, it’s work, now let’s go!" Brad yells as I put the finishing touches on my eyes. Flinging the door open, and glaring at him, I slip through the bathroom door, to the main room to grab my jacket.
Motioning for him to lead the way, I follow Brad to the door and we exit together. "Ok, so I’m going to find Eli and figure out who some people are and stuff. Why don’t you go hang out at the bar and look at what’s going on." I explain as we head to the elevator.

"Will do, but I have to call Jane at 8:30, so if you need me, don’t make it at 8:30." Brad smirks.
We got to the lobby, where we split away from each other; Brad headed toward the bar, and I headed toward the offices behind the lobby area. I called Eli early to ensure he’d help, and he said he’d do anything I needed him to. "Hi, is Eli in?" I ask the cute blonde secretary.

"Yeah, he’s the only one back there, look for the office with the light on. And can you just tell him that I’m leaving as well? I told him I’d wait until his guest got here, so now I have to go." She smiled sweetly, and stood up, collecting her things.
"Sure thing. Thanks." I smile back, and walk past her desk to a corridor of offices. You know when the main character in a horror movie is walking alone in the dark, and suddenly something jumps out at them, but before that happens there’s the haunting music that gives it away. That’s what I feel like right now, especially since there are no lights on. Anywhere. "Eli?" I call and stumble slightly, since I can’t see anything. I hear a creaking sound coming from my left, but literally I can’t see anything around me. Great.

"Hey."
"Oh my God!" I scream back at the voice, and a light flicks on. "Jesus! Eli! What the hell?" I yell at him, causing him to take a step back from me. I must look crazy. Really crazy.
With a huge smirk on his face he answers, "You’re still really skittish and watch too many scary movies I see." The glare I send him wipes the smirk off his face and he clears his throat, "Sorry, the lights go off down here sometimes; from all the stuff going on in the casino and everything. My office is down this way." He finishes awkwardly and leads the way down the corridor.
This is going to be a long awkward interview.
