Must Have Equipment for Replacing Your Roof

These days with the economy slowing down and people losing their jobs left and right, it makes sense to do your own repairs around the house. One big area you can save money is to replace your own roof instead of hiring a contractor to do it for you.

It's important that you create a plan of attack for replacing your roof the right way. First you need to set aside time in your schedule to get it done. If you have a house that is approximately 2000 square feet it could take you 3-4 days to tear off your roof and then replace it with shingles.

Most critical is to determine which tools you need for the job. To start with have a good solid hammer - it will be essential during the tear out as well as the replacement of your shingles. A crowbar or a modified crowbar is also very useful as you can rip the shingles off very easily.

Of course a tool belt is nice to have to store all your smaller tools, but it's not 100% necessary. Plan to go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up some tar paper - it's important to layer this on over the plywood and under your shingles. Have an ample supply of nails, you will be going through a ton of these, especially if you have a large roof. A level won't hurt, so you can check to make sure you are evenly applying your roofing material throughout the project.

Plan to have some sort of storage bin or dumpster to get rid of all your old roofing material. Make sure you have arranged to be able to haul this away as it will be extremely heavy when you are done with it.

This should help you out as you plan to replace your next roof - do it yourself, there is a real sense of satisfaction!
