Mum's the Word

This is a daughter's letter to her mother, who may be hundreds of miles away, but is always with her, in her heart. A chance I was always looking for, but never acquired... till now.

Before I get to my letter, I'd like to say something to whosoever that will read this. As a child, I had everything a kid can hope for; parents and grandparents who loved and adored me, amazing friends who were always there for me whenever I needed them, and a carefree life. For a kid, there is nothing else in the world that can bring this much happiness. Even though, I felt I had all the happiness in the world, my life seemed incomplete. My parents loved me to death, but couldn't do so for each other. When you come from a broken family, love comes to you in portions as well. Today, even after all these years, my childhood continues to haunt me with the unwanted memories of my past. But out of all those years of sadness, fear, and dejection, I can say that my love for my mother will always stay strong and true. This one's for you mum.

To my beautiful and caring mother,

You have always been there for me, regardless of time or distance, whenever I needed you. Your support in my life is what keeps me stronger till this day. If you couldn't be present physically, your love, strength, support, and wisdom has encouraged me every time. There were many dark moments in my life where you became a ray of light, a hope that told me to fight back and never back down.

I have always wondered, how can a human being love another person so much that they can give up anything and everything they have? But it is true. You have shown me that by being my mother; a wonderful human being who has sacrificed everything to keep her daughter happy, healthy, and safe. I will forget the sacrifices you made for me.

I know that you will never stop loving me and will look at me as your little girl, even if I have grown up now. You never stop to bring a smile on my face when I'm upset. The funny faces you make to bring me out of my sadness will never cease to amuse me. You are an intelligent woman and I wish that one day, I could be just like you. Everyday I wake up and I tell myself to follow in your footsteps, so even you can proudly say that I am your daughter.

Every morning, I wish to call you and say, "I love you, Mom!" You are everything a child can ask for... and more. I am proud and honored to say that you are my mother and I am your daughter. Just promise to be by my side forever and I promise to love you and give you the respect you deserve.
