Multitasking Lowers Your IQ More Than Smoking Pot?

Does multitasking really lower your IQ more than smoking pot? A discussion of a recently conducted study.
I recently read about a study that proved that multitasking lowers your IQ more than smoking weed.

I knew multitasking was bad for productivity, but I didn't know it was THAT BAD

The sad thing is that we ALL multitask. This is because we live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with several "things" that demand our attention. From text messages to emails, we are always forced to do many things at once.

We are constantly interrupted and distracted by several things throughout the day.

I guess this is why multitasking seems like the right thing to do. If you are talking on the phone and you need to check your email, it seems logical to do both at the same time.

However, if multitasking lowers our IQ more than smoking pot, it's definitely not the right thing to do.

There is another study that shows that it takes 15 - 30 minutes to fully recover from an interruption.

As a home business owner, this means that every time you are working and you decide to check your email or check your "stats", it will take you 15 - 30 minutes to recover and get fully focused on your work again.

It's scary if you think about the time you have wasted in the past trying to multitask.

I think multitasking is one of the biggest reasons why home business owners don't get the results they want in their businesses.

By simply stopping yourself from multitasking, you will increase your personal productivity and improve your income.

However, it's almost impossible to completely eliminate multitasking from your life, so start small.

Your first step could be working for 1 hour every day WITHOUT ANY INTERRUPTIONS.

This means that during the 1 hour period, you need to turn off your cell phone, email alerts, IM, TV, etc, and focus only on ONE THING. Do not allow yourself to be interrupted during the entire period.

This is a great time management strategy for you and your home based business and it will improve your personal productivity.

You will be surprised at how much you will get done by focusing for 1 hour without any interruptions. In fact, you will see better results by working for 1 hour without interruptions than working for 10 hours with interruptions.
