You can even apply your own variations on various styles and come up with your own personalized facial hair styles.
Here is a list of moustache styles, and the names of these styles that should help you know more.
Pencil
Pencil styles are often also referred to as 'mouthbrows'. They have been in existence for a long time and are very simple to grow and maintain. These are narrow and thin, that gently outline the upper lip. There are many different ways to trim a pencil moustache, in order to alter its appearance.
Horseshoe
This is a very popular western-looking moustache. Also referred to as 'pipes', horseshoe styles resemble an inverted horse shoe. It is a full moustache and the sides of the moustache run along the entire sides of the mouth till the jaw line of the person.
Fu Manchu
This is very similar to horseshoe style. Instead of the ends of the whiskers which run down the side of the mouth, ending at the jaw line, they are allowed to grow beyond the jaw line of the person. They are seen dangling below the jaw line, and you may have seen a lot of Oriental movies with people sporting these.
Handlebar
A handlebar moustache is one that is extremely bushy, and the ends are often long enough in order to be curled up on the side and pointing upwards. Some styling wax can be used to achieve this purpose. A smaller handle bar moustache is called a 'petite handlebar'.
Imperial
Out of all the styles, this is one that was very popular with people from the Imperial times, much like the name suggests. The hair growth is very bushy, and the whiskers are extended to hair growth on the cheeks of the person. At the end of the whiskers on the cheek, the hair is styled to point in an upward direction.
English
This is a very thin and narrow moustache that is divided at the center of the upper lip. The whiskers are very long, but are not bushy. They are pulled to either side of the center to give an elongated appearance. The corners of the mouth are shaved.
Chevron
This is a classic style and is the most commonly seen amongst all the various styles. It is a long and wide moustache that extends till the corners of the mouth, and covers up the entire upper lip.
Lampshade
This is a thick moustache, that is worn short under most circumstances. The ends of the moustache though, are commonly given an angular shape.
Painter's Brush
This is a style of moustache, that is almost exactly similar to the lampshade style. Instead of the ends of the moustache being angular, the ends are made to resemble a circular shape in this style.
Toothbrush
This style of moustache is very well-known, because it was the style sported by Adolf Hitler. It is an extremely thick moustache but it is shaved to be only about 1-2 inches across the center of the area above the upper lip.
Walrus
This style is very similar to the Chevron, but the hair density is much higher in this. The moustache is droopier in this case, and often covers the entire mouth of the person. It almost resembles the droopy mouth appearance of a walrus, hence the name.
Pyramidal
The shape of these moustaches generally resemble the shape of a pyramid, in the sense that they are narrow on top and widen out as you reach the ends of the whiskers. The density of the hair and the width of the moustache differ from person to person.
Moustaches can also be merged and extended into beards, if you so wish. If the thickness of the hair on your upper lip is not satisfactory enough for you, then continue shaving till you achieve the desired level of thickness. Try these styles to achieve the look that you have been craving, and choose a style that accentuates and suits your facial features.
