More Than You Know - Chapter Three
We all love cheese! Anyways, little bit of chemistry going on here...
He was the hottest thing she had ever seen.
"So, hi. Um yeah." She looked down at her guitar and blushed. Now they were face to face, she was feeling a little shy.
"Wow." Jenni looked up from her guitar and smiled.
"Yeah?" she asked innocently, pushing her fringe from her eyes.
"You're beautiful." Well, he didn't beat around the bush. He smiled a little and looked away, as if nervous. Jenni stared on in wonder.
"I'm detecting hints of flirting here." she grinned. Daniel smiled as well, but he wasn't completely there, Jenni could tell.
"No, no. Just telling it like it is." Jenni looked down at her lap, then back up to his mesmerizing baby blue eyes.
"What are you doing in here? I mean, it's my lesson. I mean..." flustered, she looked away. Danny grinned at her discomfort.
"I got up early, to miss the mob. I like this studio. I didn't realize you would be here. I'm sorry."
"Don't be. My tutor seems to have disappeared anyhow. And I really like this studio as well." The room they were in was at the far end of the closed off corridor. There was two spare equipment storing rooms next to them, so it was kind of closed off and private. Just then, Mr Phillips, the scatter-brained, eccentric vocal teacher walked in. Or more, burst in.
"Top of the morning to you, Miss Porshotti and...ooo. Do my eyes deceive me or is this Mr Gray of the television, stage and..."
"Um, yeah, Mr Phillips, it is Daniel Gray." Jenni smiled at her favorite teacher, who grinned back.
"Now, I understand you have a pacifying voice. So does my little Jenni here. We shall all sing together. Won't that be nice?"
"Um, he isn't meant to be here Mr Phillips..."
"I forbid you to speak, Miss Porshotti! You shall sing to me from now on! With Mr Gray here." Jenni looked to Danny, her eyes pleading. Danny smirked and turned to Mr Phillips.
"Well, I don't mind, Mr P." Mr P? He was already calling him Mr P?
"Jenni?"
"Well..." She had to admit they sounded great together. "OK, then." A big grin spread across both Mr Phillips and Daniel's faces.
"What do you have prepared for me, Miss Porshotti?" The teacher asked, placing down his stacks of messy paper and files, pushing up his glasses with two fingers.
"Well...I was thinking we could work on Rihanna today. But somehow I don't think Daniel would suit it, so you'll have to dig something up for us." She smiled at Mr Phillips who was bubbling over in obvious excitement. He actually jumped in the air, clapped and squealed. She had always thought him homosexual, but he often spoke of his funny wife and kids. He loved working out the songs his pupils' would suit.
"Um, OK, OK. We have to do something modern, a modern duet, and the sort of things the teenage stars of today are bellowing to the Disney TV cameras..." He picked up a file from the very bottom of the pile, sending the rest to the floor in an array of musical mess. He didn't even blink. Daniel laughed and bent down to pick the stuff up, along with Jenni. They gathered everything together, still laughing, when it happened. Danny looked up at the same time she did, from their crouched position on the floor. Their eyes locked and neither could tear their gaze away. Danny reached out a hand and softly brushed a lock of hair from her eyes and behind her ears. She didn't even react, didn't look away. The moment was breathtaking.
With their arms full of papers and files, their gazes never breaking, they stood up and set the things down on the table.
"Ah ha! I have it! Come, come, children, we shall sing! The hills are alive with the sound of music!" Mr Phillips trilled, his messy ginger hair sticking out in odd places from where he had clutched it in his moment of stress. Danny finally tore his eyes away from hers, breaking the intense moment and smiling sheepishly.
"Sure, Mr P. What are we doing today?"
"You say it as if we'll sing together other days." Jenni commented, smiling a little.
"Well, maybe we will." Danny smirked, his hair also messed up, but in a more tousled, sexy way. Did he have to look so good ALL the time?
"Sorry to break the little moment but we have to sing! We are already behind!" Mr Phillips sang, his voice reaching high pitches no man's voice should reach. "We shall sing Natasha Bedingfield's world renown 'Love Like This'. It is VERY different to the safeness we are used to but la la la la, the beauty of music and all that. Sing!" He suddenly shouted, surprising them beyond words. They both grinned and scrambled to get into the recording booth. They couldn't see Mr P, but Mr P could see them. Danny glanced at her but didn't say anything. Mr P pressed the microphone button and his voice bellowed into the room.
"You know the lyrics. They are in your hands. So sing!" Danny looked at her properly and smiled.
"I have a really little part in this."
"I suppose."
"So lets improvise."
"We'll do the chorus together."
"Great idea!" They smiled at each other and Jenni began to sing. She looked him square in the eyes and grinned as the wonderful music entered their ears through the headphones.
"Oh, oh, oh, never had a love like this
(Let me hear you say it)
Oh, oh, oh, never had a love like this
Oh we go back so far
Swinging in your backyard
All the things that we used to do..." Danny was staring at her. It was a little unnerving, but she smiled and carried on.
"We were cool back in high school
Oh, I really like you
Must have been your attitude
That's why you keep on running
In and out of my mind
As the years, they'll roll by
Baby now I know why I
Keep coming back to you..." Danny was still staring at her, surprised at her amazing voice. She finally blushed as his penetrating stare got to her. Then she nodded at him, indicating he start to sing with her.
"You're the only one who knows me,
Love it when you hold me
Never find a love like this...
Let me hear you say
Now I'll never be lonely
Look at what you've shown me
Never found a love like this..." As before, their combined voices were amazing. Even they were surprised at how good they sounded together. Suddenly, the music screeched to a halt. Both Jenni and Danny slipped their headphones off.
"You can come out now!" Mr P called. Even his voice was a little more subdued than normal. Both the singers walked out and blinked in the harsher light of the control panel room. "The next talent show is in a week. I need your signatures and we're done here." He said in a rush. His papers were already gathered up.
"Mr Phillips! Aren't you going to say anything else? And since when did I say I'm going to sing with him in a talent contest?"
"Miss Porshotti. If you have a problem with Daniel, talk to him about it. In my mind, you two are the perfect match. And that's not exaggerating." Danny looked at Jenni and smirked, who blushed as their teacher walked out, leaving them alone.
"So?"
"So, hi. Um yeah." She looked down at her guitar and blushed. Now they were face to face, she was feeling a little shy.
