Moonlight Vow - Chapter 14

Tristan eyed me curiously, making me feel incredibly uncomfortable. Butterflies still threw themselves against the walls in the pit of my stomach. Even through a side glance Tristan still was a gorgeous sight to behold. If I could have a cold sweat sticking to my forehead, I would. The tension of his continuous stares, weighs between us. What's wrong with me? Am I dirty, do I smell bad? "What is it?!" I say out loud unintentionally. I keep my gaze forward waiting for an answer but it never comes. I stop walking against the dry cracked earth, and I turn to face him. "Well?" I say , more impatience in my voice. His features are drawn out in careful smile, though our eyes don't meet.

"I was wrong..." He murmurs. His eyes roaming the ground, with his curious smile still plastered on his face. It's too late for him to finish his sentence before a worried look crosses my face. Already a thousand possible things he could say after those three words. But still I wait patiently knowing it has only been a couple of seconds. "I do want you more.." By this statement I can't help but smile. I grab his hand and squeeze it lightly. "It's come back to this, has it?" He mumbles.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"You're the one doing the protecting, just like when we were kids."

I remember what Leo said, and Tristan, in his weak state, had stood up for me though it was an insult towards him. It didn't seem like it had effected him, but I know now it hurt. What am I supposed to do? I can feel the strength pump through, even in my relaxed state. And I'm not one to sit back when I know what I am capable of. I look at his innocent face, the fine traces of his jaw set perfectly. His cold lips pressed into a thin line, his mind obviously consumed in thought. Then something crosses my mind. This innocent look, and that soft boyish voice of his. Though I haven't noticed until now, this is the Tristan I knew before the change. My chest stings for a moment.

What happened to that sexy, confident and somewhat dark side of Tristan? Where is that grin, that plays against his mouth? My breath catches in my throat, when these thoughts occur. I loved Tristan before the change and after. But even though my heart beats for the caring, sensitive Tristan, my childhood friend, My body yearns for the forceful, confident Tristan who tore my feelings for that childhood friend out of me. And the demon inside me, lusts for not only Tristan's body, but that thick flowing blood. A dark grin forces itself on me, when I think about it, but passes over quickly. The girl in love, inside me wants the vampire Tristan over me, drinking my own blood for the pleasure. I shake my head, and Tristan looks up at me confused. He's about to say something, but a voice interrupts him.

"Brooklyn, looks like it was a good thing I didn't kill you." He says "How did such an annoying girl become such sexy vampire?"

Still looking directly at Tristan, I laugh at the comment. The reflected image in Tristan's eyes shows me the identity of this man. "Now, is this an insult or a compliment?" I don't wait for an answer. "What are you doing out here in the middle of nowhere?" I ask, and swiftly turn around regretting taking my eyes of the comfort of Tristan's. "Nathan."

He laughs, a twisted haunting laugh. "I'm here to, collect my woman obviously. You wouldn't know how boring having sex with a mortal is, you have to be so gentle or they'll break."

I feel sick inside, but have enough in me to choke up a responsive sarcastic laugh. "If you do know how it is, then I feel bad those woman had such a death. Raped, by someone with a face like yours? I suspect they were happy to die."

"I'll make you scream in agony, you little bitch." He growls. He throws himself at me with such a force I'm sure I would have died from the impact but I dodge it easily, the silent Tristan still attached to my side. The shock that takes Nathan, is hysterical. I lunge at him, cracking my fist into the back of his skull. The sound of the bone breaking, thrills me once again. Nathan falls to his knees, his mind blank I suppose, from the increase of shock. His head starts to gush blood, the wound is similar to Tristan's, making my stomach churn from the crude memory. I grab onto his blood soaked hair and yank his head back, another shot of pain to his head and neck from the force I used makes him yell out in agony. I crouch down behind him, leveling my head with his.

"What's that?" I whisper angrily. "You'll make me scream out in agony? Isn't that what you said?" His head wound has already begun to stop bleeding. I draw his head back further and bash his face forward into the hard dry ground. I lift his head again harder this time, and throw it back into the ground. His entire face is wet with blood. Dirt clings to his lips and forehead. For a moment I wonder if Tristan will stop me from killing his brother. I stand up beside his body that is already limp, and pick him up from the front looking at that pathetic look on his face. The collar of his shirt is bunched into my fist his feet dangling uselessly. I laugh at the ironic outcome.

Before this situation was reversed. I am tempted to suck his blood dry, knowing it would taste an amazing amount better than Lyle's at the cell, but I'm having too much fun making this horrid man suffer. Again I pull back my arm to deliver a devastating blow to the face. But someone catches my arm and pulls me away from the blood covered mess. I suspect it to be Tristan, which surprises me when Nathan's tired body falls to the ground I see Tristan standing about 15 feet behind it. "Let go of me!" I grunt, suddenly afraid of who might be behind me. I struggle a great deal, but this person holding me is a lot more powerful. Lyle comes to Nathan's side, he holds his arm up and sticks a needle in the hard-working vein. Blood.

"now, now dear Brooklyn." The man behind me says in a low tone. "You've done enough."

I breathe in heavily, showing that I had calmed down. So, Leo releases me. I stare down at Nathan , who is already sitting up with his hand on his head. Then, I look at Tristan who is now staring at the ground in thought again. I get angry at him for a second. Being upset about being protected. While he still just stood there watching me pound his brother's face in. Leo wraps his hand around my right wrist.

"Though your opponent was this, so to speak, young vampire there are others much stronger who will come for you." He says, in the same annoyingly pleasant voice. "You're still a woman, and there will certainly be someone who can take you by force." His breath is hot on my neck and I wish with my whole existence it was Tristan who stopped me. "If you can't stop them, who will step in, if not the first person to protect you? Will he be able to protect you without being hurt, or even killed?" He says, loud enough for Tristan to hear. I see him flinch from Leo's words but continue to keep his eyes down. "Come with me, my dear, I am like royalty to the race, so no other male will dare to touch you." He pauses and pulls me closer, his lips almost touching my ear. "Tristan will always be in danger if you are around him." He whispers softly. I close my eyes for a moment. I look at Tristan again, looking for that confidence I learned to love. But the image of him avoiding my eyes is the same. I turn around and Leo smiles, again too pleasantly. He leads me the direction I have been trying to move away from. I glance back again after taking a few steps with Leo.

"Tristan, I..." I start to say.

"As if I'd let you take her." Tristan says in a low tone. My heart jumps into a rapid beat as soon as I turn my head back. Tristan is standing in front of Leo His eyes are dark and confident. He reaches out and closes his hand around my arm above Leo's. "I suggest you let go, your majesty." He says with dark humor attached to his voice. Goose bumps form on my arms. Leo is angry, which does not suit him at all.

"Now listen here, you weak little boy!" He yells. I wait for Leo to continue talking but he has frozen in mid sentence. Tristan wear's a terrifying expression on his face, that makes my fingers go numb.
"I'm listening, old man but you better listen too." He growls "I will carve those damn eyes out of your skull, so you won't look at Brooke with that disgusting intention in your head while showing her an innocent face." I suffer a few moments of silence, wondering what will happen with such talk, to Leo, one who I can't even shake off.

"I see..." Leo finally says, in a much calmer but still annoyed voice. "You are two-faced, even my eyes that have seen much of the world could not see this side of you." He says. He releases my wrist and Tristan's hand slides to mine, carefully threading his fingers to where the fit perfectly. We start walking towards the ice topped mountains again. Me, I'm still speechless, by how much I feel so helpless with this Tristan. "There's a cottage on that Mountain. Though, I have no doubt you will need a sanctuary, it wouldn't hurt to have peace, without interruptions from others, don't you agree?" Leo adds, after we take several paces.

"I just might take that advice." Tristan murmurs.
