Mongoose Bat: Future of T20 Cricket
With the introduction mongoose cricket bat and its successful on-field demo by Matthew Hayden (93 runs off 43 balls), the interest in this piece of willow is on a rise. One would see most of the T20 players using this cricket bat in the near future.
The Mongoose cricket bat is shorter in the blade length (33% less), while the handle length is longer by 43%. Now, what is the advantage of using a shorter bat? The Mongoose bat is said to increase speed of strokes and also the power behind them. Manufacturers have claimed that the power would at least be 20% greater. Matthew Hayden, in this fast format of cricket, successfully demonstrated how effective the mongoose bat can be. He is also the brand ambassador, promoting the mongoose bat. Price of mongoose bats could range from 17,000 to 23,000 INR. It was introduced in India on 11th March, 2010. Marylebone Cricket Club has certified the mongoose bat to be legal for use in T20 matches. One should however, note that it is not the first time that such a bat is being used. It was used long back and only cricket historians could tell you the specific details about when it was used.
The matter of interest, today remains that how many batsmen would use it and how successful would they be. After all, cricket is all about runs.
