Modern Family Toddler Curse Word Draws Protesters
Tonight's episode of Modern Family involves a toddler who appears to curse during the show, which has generated some concern among watchdog groups.
Once again, you have to love when the media - and television networks in particular - create news items to subtly promote their programs. In this instance, tonight's episode of the smash hit family comedy, Modern Family, has a story line that includes a toddler who appears to say the "F" word during the show. Of course, the alleged curse word is bleeped out and the child's mouth is obscured to create the "impression" that a curse word was used. The reality, of course, is that the young actress simply said "fudge" on the set.
But the mere appearance of a curse word from a toddler is apparently enough to draw the attention of a young anti-profanity crusader and his group, the No Cussing Club. The founder of the group, 18-year-old McKay Hatch, said that his goal was to stop ABC from airing the episode, which is obviously never going to happen. But, he added, "If we don't, at least ABC knows that people all over the world don't want to have a 2-year-old saying the 'F-bomb' on TV."
Hatch claims to have about 35,000 registered members in his No Cussing Club from around the world. And while you can "almost" see where the young man is coming from, it really just gets more absurd as you consider it.
The story line of the episode involves a toddler who is saying a word that she obviously doesn't know or understand - it just sounds like the F word. Anyone who has ever been around young children has heard them utter sounds and babbles that turn out to sound exactly like profanity of various types. That doesn't mean that a child is cursing or behaving poorly. It's just a child making a noise that makes adults uncomfortable - and that's funny and family-friendly entertainment. Loosen up.
