Mobile Phone and PSP Combined
The PSP could become a mobile phone as BT believes that it is the next logical step is to combine the two.
In the future, you may not have to carry around your portable gaming unit as well as your phone, as there may be just the one portable unit.
The PSP has already launched the Go ! Messenger service on the device and BT has said that they are planning for the unit to also have a "call out" feature.
The Go! Messenger will be on the PSP by the end of the month, however, the drawback of this feature is that users will not be able to make calls to people who do not have the Go! Messenger function on their PSP.
The company BT believe that combining the PSP with mobile phones is the next logical direction that they should take the software in.
The software, which has been in the pipeline since last year, will enable gamers to make and receive voice and video calls all from their PSP. These calls can also be made from a Wi-Fi hotspot to anywhere in the world.
BT is hoping that the 11 million PSP owners will want to talk to each other via video from their PSPs. If this is to be the case, perhaps BT could start putting into practice the idea of turning PSPs into mobile phones for all PSP owners to use.
At the moment, gamers will have to buy a £35 PSP webcam in order to make the most of the new Go! Messenger feature. This will enable Go! Messenger users to send video messages to multiple fellow gamers.
This mobile phone and gaming development means that in the future, we’re more likely to have play as you go rather than pay as you go mobile phones .
