Mister Quarterback and Miss Nobody - Chapter 3

Blech. Don't like this chapter but I hope you do.
Mister Quarterback and Miss Nobody - Chapter 3
-------------------------->> Genna ?

The next morning, I woke up just to find myself on the floor of my room and not on my bed. I had no idea how I ended up there since I started out sleeping on my bed but I guess I fell…no surprise there. Anyway, by the time I was fully awake I was already twenty minutes late and I absolutely had no time to get ready or even eat. So I just put my messy hair up into a high pony and grabbed a New York Yankees baseball hat that was lying around in my room. Then I quickly changed into a pair of jean shorts and an Abercrombie tank I got as a present from Julie. As soon as I was done packing up my backpack, I ran downstairs and grabbed my mom’s car keys. Because of my crazy driving that definitely was not legal, I got to my school in no time. I drove around the school parking lot until I found the perfect spot. Well, it /was/ perfect until one of the bitchy cheerleader and her man whore boyfriend parked right next to me. I got out of my car as fast as I could, trying to stay clear from trouble, aka the perfect fake-ass blonde who parked next to me. I half-jogged to my locker and I was so relieved and freaking excited to see gorgeous Anthony leaning against it.

"Good morning." He smiled cheerfully and grabbed at my hat. Before I could take it back, he put it on backwards where I could never reach. Outside, I pouted like a three year old but in the inside I was doing cartwheels and jumping up and down with joy.

"I’ll give it back to you later, but only if…never mind." Anthony chewed on his lips nervously and I laughed at his shyness.

"If what?" I was definitely curious and even more so when he blushed as our eyes met. Suddenly, he sighed and looked down at the ground and lightly kicked one of the lockers nearby.

"If…If you go to the movies with me this Friday." He blushed again as he said it and looked at me nervously.

"You-you mean like a…date?"

"Yeah. Like a date." Anthony replied with a small smile. I couldn’t believe it. It just /had/ to be a cruel joke or something. Why in the world would a guy like ANTHONY go out with ME? And with all these thoughts going through my head, the only thing that came out of my mouth was an ‘are you kidding me?’.

"Oh…it’s fine if you don’t want to. I totally understand if you don’t like me that way or anything. It’s just I thought it’d me fun and—" I stopped him with my hand before he could go on any further.

"I would love to go on a date with you." As soon as I said it, Anthony’s whole face literally glowed. His expression mirrored exactly how I felt, though I wouldn’t let it show on the outside. Just then, the bell rang and we both said ‘see you later’. But before we could go our separate ways Anthony hugged me and after he let go he said, "By the way, you look great today." All I could blurt out was a ‘thanks’--even though I thought I looked like crap right now.

‘Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.’

I had to keep on telling myself to breathe deeply and calm down. I was so nervous about this ‘date’ and I practically jumped at any sound. It was already eight o’clock and Anthony would be here any moment. I didn’t even know what we were going to watch but I knew it would be awkward. Plus, I didn’t know whether to dress up or not so I just wore a jean skirt with a cute ruffle top that I loved.
As I was checking myself one last time in the mirror, I heard a knock in the front door. I touched my straightened-hair one last time before opening the door.

"You ready to go? Or do I have to talk to overprotective parents first." He joked but I knew he was half serious. Over the past week since we first met, I opened up to him a great deal and he knew a lot about my scary (but caring) parents.

"Nope, we’re good to go. My parents have a board meeting or something—thank god for our luck." Anthony laughed and walked me to his Volvo. He opened the passenger seat for me, like a gentleman he was, and I slid in smoothly while he got the car started. During the car ride we decided to watch ‘The Perfect Getaway’ and I really hoped it wouldn’t be as scary as Julie told me it would be. I mean I didn’t want to look like a baby in front of Anthony! Anyway, the whole twenty minutes of the car ride wasn’t awkward at all which I hoped would be the same during the movie.

When we arrived at the movie theatres, we had to circle around the parking lot for a long time because it was packed! I wasn’t surprised since it was one of the only places teens ‘hung out’ in this small town. I was just hoping we wouldn’t run into anyone we knew from our grade or anything—especially not Monica since it was obvious by the way she treated me that she didn’t approve of her gorgeous cousin dating a not-so-gorgeous girl like me. I didn’t blame her since I knew Anthony could do so much better and any girls in the school would throw themselves at him if it wasn’t for me.

After we found a parking space all the way in the back of the building, we walked a good distance to the theatres, got our tickets, and walked in. Anthony got some popcorn and Twizzlers for both of us and we settled into the two seats in the back. So far no familiar bitchy faces.
Good.

Some time throughout the film, Anthony managed to get his arms around my shoulder and I couldn’t help but to smile and even giggle a bit. And whenever a gruesome scene came on, I would cringe into his wide shoulder even if I wasn’t that scared. This was everything I imagined my first date would be like. This day was perfect. And that’s when I was wrong.

"You were /so/ scared! Just admit it." He joked and poked my ribs lightly. I acted like I was mad but his puppy dog face just cracked me up.

"Fine, fine, I admit it. I was scared!" I stuck my tongue out at him and got in the car while he laughed it off. Then he started the car once again and we were driving down the road to my house in no time at all.

"So I was thinking about trying out for the school football team next week." Anthony glanced my way and shrugged. I tried to keep my face composed of any emotion I felt but it was hard. If he tried out for football and actually make the team, what little relationship we had would be totally over! He would start to eat with the jocks in lunch and would someday become a total bonehead like them. Then at every football practice he would get to see ‘hot’ cheerleaders in skimpy little uniforms jump up and down and I would just be an ugly nerdy girl that has a huge crush on him. I could just see it all happen. I knew this was all too good to be true.

"Hello? Earth to Genna?!" When I finally snapped out of my silly little fear, I realized that we were at my house already.

"Oh, sorry. Um yeah that’s great. I…I hope you make the team. Uh good night, Anthony. I’ll see you Monday." I quickly replied and jumped out of the car before he could say anything. Ugh, he must think I was a freak now. This is just great.
