Miley Cyrus and Chris Brown Set for Box Office Showdown

The weekend of January 8, 2010 is currently scheduled to hold the premieres of both Miley Cyrus' and Chris Brown's new movies.
Miley Cyrus is certainly no stranger to success at the box office. Both of her Hannah Montana films have hit number one during their studio runs and both are likely to keep raking in DVD sales and television rights fees for years to come. Disney knew what to do with the Cyrus fame wave as it was cresting - they cashed in on it.

Now, Miley is breaking out of the Hannah Montana character to play a new role written by a legitimate force in Hollywood story-telling - Nicholas Sparks. Sparks is probably best known for his novel, The Notebook, and the work he did in adapting the novel into a hit movie. He is believed to have written The Last Song, the new Cyrus movie, with Cyrus in mind to play one of the lead roles in the film. The film is said to be a father-daughter drama and Cyrus is the only known cast member at this point. Shooting is expected to begin in the summer.

Chris Brown, on the other hand, has already shot the film that will be his debut next January. Takers is a cops and robbers flick that has been in the can for some time. Co-starring Paul Walker, Matt Dillon, Hayden Christensen and T.I., the film has the star-power necessary to make it a winner. But since filming ended, both T.I. and Chris Brown have encountered significant legal problems. T.I. is expected to serve jail time and Brown is about to head to court to defend himself against felony charges relating to the beating of Rihanna.

Much can change between now and January 8, 2010, but either way that weekend should be full of fireworks at the box office.
