Mild Autism Symptoms

Jim was 12 years old, and was always strikingly different from other children of his class. He did not speak to anyone and even if he spoke, it was just muttering to himself and a repetition of something that he had already done. His parents took him to a doctor and it was found that he was autistic.

Autism, simply put is a disorder related to neural development. It is characterized by vitiated social interaction and behavior. Moreover, the behavior is restricted and repetitive. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is strongly connected to genetics. In addition to that, the patterns of the signs of being autistic differs sometimes. Normally in the first 2 years of the child's growth, the parents notice the signs but sometimes it so happens that for a few years the children grow normally and then they regress. In such children, the signs develop gradually. When it comes to symptoms, they advance from mild to chronic or serious, like any other disorder.

Symptoms of Mild Autism

In Children

Impaired Social Skills and Development: People with autism take people for granted and sometimes lack intuition about others. Such children encounter difficulty in making eye contact, or strike and continue a conversation with others. In infants, it leads to paying less attention to social stimuli. They might even not respond to their name. Younger children mostly communicate non verbally. Friendship is hard to come by for these children because they do not open up. These are generally the early symptoms, that parents must try and observe.

Communication: Around 50% of the individuals or rather children detected with autism have communication problems. In fact they do not seem to have developed natural speech ability even for daily communication. While commenting on something or sharing an experience, they fail to point out to an object. In a few cases, autistic children may keep on repeating what they have heard.

Behavior : Repetitive behavior is another symptom. Most common amongst such behavior is hand flapping. Another one is frequent mood swings and tantrums. They are also extremely resistant to change. As a result, they are prone to getting agitated very easily.

Motor Skill and Sensory Issues: Motor skills are impaired in children. Consequently, they cannot catch things like a ball when it is thrown at them or may be they are late when it comes to developing writing. In other cases, children may be very sensitive to bright light or loud noise or specific food textures.

In Adults

Classical Autism: This type is characterized by social issues. Adults with this problem cannot have close relationships with others and keep to themselves. Lack of eye contact and perceptual problems are also observed in autistic adults. Negligible verbal skills is another feature of this type of autism.

Asperger Syndrome: This is common in adults as well as children as mentioned earlier. This mainly involves obsession with objects and certain routine or either. Intelligence, surprisingly is normal or above average in these adults. No empathy for others is another feature of Asperger Syndrome in adults.

Rhett Syndrome: All the above medical conditions fall under the category of Autism Spectrum Disorders. Rhett Syndrome is the rarest of these disorders and the most debilitating one as well. It is a result of the mutation of a gene. It includes a range of symptoms from brain growth issues to intellectual difficulties and scoliosis. Another interesting aspect is that it mostly affects women. Poor motor coordination is a symptom of this syndrome.

There are quite a lot of complications and contradictions with regards to autism. As autistic individuals are special and different, all they need is love and care. Given that their life will certainly be better. This is where I sign off! Take Care!
