Mike Tyson’s DUI Arrest
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of DUI and drugs possession.
Tyson was stopped by police after leaving a nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona at approximately 1:45 a.m. Sergeant Larry Hall reported that Tyson was pulled over after his vehicle ran a stop sign and almost collided with a sheriff’s cruiser. Tyson was alone at the time he was pulled over. Hall said, "He showed signs of impairment and voluntarily submitted to field sobriety tests. According to Hall, Tyson showed "more signs of impairment" during the field sobriety tests and was arrested.
Officers then searched Tyson’s car and allegedly found cocaine in his car and on his person. He was booked at a Maricopa County sheriff’s jail and is to appear before the courts late Friday for a bail hearing. Officers allegedly reported that Tyson, 40, claimed to have been using illegal drugs in the days prior to his arrest. He allegedly was very cooperative and "behaved like a gentleman."
Tyson is no stranger to the law. He has served prison terms in the past. In 1992 he was convicted of raping Miss Black Rhode Island Desiree Washington and served three years in prison. In 1997 he caused a stir when he bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield’s ear during a fight. In 1999, he served nine months in prison for assaulting two people following a car accident. He was also arrested in 2004 and charged with suspicion of criminal damage after jumping on a stranger’s car after leaving a nightclub in Arizona. He caused approximately $1400 worth of damage to the car. Tyson reportedly converted to Islam while he was in prison and changed his name to Mike "Abdul Aziz" Tyson.
