Midnight Love [Chapter 8]
Here it is... =]
"Yeah, your story," Alex said with a smile, soon realizing that she was attempting to flirt. What was wrong with her? She didn’t flirt, she never flirted. And what was with her tone of voice, was she trying to sound cute? Whatever it was, it appalled her, but it now it seemed to difficult to stop, "what brought your family here?"
There, he did that thing again. Alex watched his muscles tighten up along his arms like a chain reaction, she was slowly getting use to it. Now, as she looks, it looks somewhat like he’s flexing. Whatever condition he had, she’ll get it out of him someday or another.
"Oh," Broxton muttered as if he finally got what she was asking.
He was quiet for a moment and Alex took this time to look at him again as he was looking away. Braxton was looking off in the distance, into the dark in the opposite direction where the main part of the party was held. Alex wasn’t entirely sure if he was going to answer and right now it didn’t really matter, she just like studying him while the moon shined on him. It made her want to paint.
Alex looked away from him at that thought, it made her want to paint? That felt like such a cheesy thought and now she was embarrassed that she even thought of that it. Sure, he didn’t hear it, but she doesn’t think like that. Damn, what was this guy doing to her?
After a long moment, while Alex still had a mental war about her lame thought, Braxton finally answered. Alex wasn’t entirely sure if she caught what he said, she wasn’t paying much attention to him and he did reply softly. But, she was almost positive that he said family problems.
"And eventually they chose to move to see if it would make it better…." By the look on Braxton’s face, it made Alex guess that he was thinking about how it was never going to be better. That’s what she thought sometimes, that there was nothing out there to make her life better. Then again, it’s not entirely true… Braxton showed up and now there’s something new and interesting in her life as long as it didn’t go down hill and plummet into a disaster.
"Has it?" She dared to ask.
Her question made Braxton smile, which chained effect into making Alex smile. Damn it, sometimes she hated being a girl and all the stupid girl feelings that cute guys gave her with something simple and small like a smile.
"So far… for me it has anyway."
Now he sounded withdrawn and hesitant, like he was holding something from her. Maybe it was a touchy subject.
"They have problems that they don’t want to deal with," he told her, his head bent down as if he was trying to think up something important. He glanced up at her when she didn’t reply right away and straighten up, laughing slightly. His fingers were tapping against his pop can, acting like he just told her a major secret about his family and she only hasn’t picked it up on it yet. An awkward silence past through them, just the sound of music floating by.
"Man," Alex shook her head, feeling herself scoot closer towards him, "parents seem to be more messed up lately than ever these days." She knew for a fact that he own mom wasn’t the greatest out of the bunch.
That made Braxton chuckle softly and it made her grin, proud of herself that he made him laugh.
"You have no idea."
"But, I’ll make that decision for myself," she said, bending down to se her pop can onto the ground.
"What?"
"When I meet your parents... I’ll make that decision for myself, if they’re messed up or not," Alex said jokingly , trying to lift the awkward feeling that floated between them.
"Who says you’ll meet them?" Braxton asked as he leaned towards her, not catching on that she was joking with him.. He didn’t want her to meet his parents, defiantly no time soon.
"This is a date isn’t it?" Her eyebrows rose.
Her body froze as if it had just clicked in his brain, it made her laugh, "slow reaction?"
"Yeah."
"And who says there won’t be another one?" she asked, casually leaned towards him.
"No one?" Braxton sounded clueless and seemed clueless, maybe it hadn’t yet clicked in his brain like she thought it had.
"Good, so our next date will be in my basement… partying?"
"With loud music," He asked, a smile playing on his lips.
Alex bit her lip, her eyes watching him as he looked around. She wasn’t entirely sure if he even knew how gorgeous he was in the moonlight, it just made her want to… no, wait. She can’t do that, they guy would flee for his life if she even tried. Besides, she only has known the guy for two days right? Or was it three… Whoa, she can’t even remember.
She bent down and grabbed her drink, sitting back up straight. Stretching out her legs, she wasn’t really sure how long they’re been there. All she does know is that she’s enjoying every minute of it.
"So, Braxton," Alex started, her gaze fixed on the stars, "I didn’t get your story." She looked down and took a quick in take of breath, which was no where near quiet. He was sitting right next to her, casually sitting there as if he had been sitting there the entire time and he was looking at her.
When Braxton’s eyes caught Alex’s, he glanced away. He was embarrassed being caught, she could tell… but, she didn’t want to tell him that she didn’t mind.
"My story?" He asked again for the second time that night, slowly looking up from the pop can that he was holding, "There’s not much to say."
"Well, just tell me about yourself."
"There’s nothing interesting to tell," Braxton replied quickly.
Then there was silence as Alex just looked at him back, feeling like this moment was one of those cheesy movie moments that she hated to watch. She had to force herself to watch moments like this, but it was so… mesmerizing. Wow! Another lame thought that popped into her mind. Jeez, why couldn’t she control herself?
"Maybe… I can help?" No, those words didn’t just come out of her mouth? Soon she was going to be a blubbering idiot who had no control of her thoughts or words… Maybe she should go before she does something that she really regrets.
Did… did he just kiss her?
Now her mind was racing, thoughts after thoughts flying through her end and it drove her crazy. He did just kiss her and she had saw it coming the entire time.. The way he leaned in, his dark bangs falling gracefully into his eyes… It was perfect, while she probably sat there like a fool. But her kissed her, he did… and it was better than she imagined, yes she imagined it.
She felt his hand press up against her lower back and she felt herself leaning into him, still kissing the lips that were unfamiliar to her. His kissing was great, they way his lips moved in sync with hers… Way better than the last guy he kissed, even the way Braxton started to pull away made her want more. He ended it by softer, shorter but slower kisses, then when their lips no longer touched, Alex could see the pink color rise to his cheeks.
The whole thing just made her smile.
There, he did that thing again. Alex watched his muscles tighten up along his arms like a chain reaction, she was slowly getting use to it. Now, as she looks, it looks somewhat like he’s flexing. Whatever condition he had, she’ll get it out of him someday or another.
