Midnight Love [Chapter 4]

Braxton seems to have a secret and Alex isn't sure it’s exactly what he had told her.
"Did you get my note?" Alex asked as she took a step into the gazebo.

The Gazebo was mostly used for a Christmas Jesus manager thing. She wasn’t exactly into the whole religious scene, so she didn’t exactly know the story and wouldn’t be able to tell anyone it. All Alex does know is that she always takes a picture sitting on top of the camel each winter.

"You get my note?" Braxton was sitting in the middle of one of the benches, his hair even more wild then it had been earlier that morning.

"Obviously," Her eyes rolled. Taking a quick step in front of him with her hands shoved into her sweatshirt pocket. "Been a little busy huh?" She teased him, reaching out her hand to ruffle his messy hair.

He was wearing a black Senses Fail t-shirt, with pink hearts along the side. If she noticed it before, he had been wearing a sweatshirt the last time she seen him, she would’ve commented on it. Senses Fail happens to be one of her favorite bands.

"Nice shirt," Now, trying to flatten out his hair after she had mad it more crazy, Alex clicked her tongue in annoyance, "what’s wrong with your hair?"

"Hey," Shaking her away, he tried to flatten it down himself, "I don’t know."

"It’s called a comb."

"It’s called a comb," He mocked her, leaning away to dodge her smack, "and why are you dissing my looks?"

"I said nice shirt," Alex plucked the fabric on his shoulder, soon taking a seat next to him. "I left Fret to fend for himself, sooooo… this lunch better be good."

"I promise," Braxton gave her a weak smile, Alex finally noticing the lip ring when it glittered in the sun. Wow, how could she miss that before?

"When did you put that in? I may be unobservant, but I know that wasn’t in this morning," She told him, tilting his chin up with the tip of her finger to check it out.

"You like to touch my head or something?" His eyebrow rose and Alex dropped her hand onto her lap, and then he laughed, "I put it in during second period.. I felt naked without it." Getting to his feet, he held out his hand to help her up, "And I promise it’ll be a good lunch."

Taking his hand, she pulled herself up, "a cross your heart, hope to die, stick a needle in your eyes type of promise?" She purposely sounded childish, even doing the hand actions for each part of the saying.

"A what?" He truly looked confused, like he had never heard of that saying before.

"You never heard that?" She watched him shake his head, "I don’t believe you."

"I’m serious."

Alex laughed at him, "That’s sad."

When he didn’t reply, Alex sighed. She was getting really hungry and they’ve already wasted most of their lunch period, "okay, forget about the promise, let’s just get your food."

With a nod, Braxton dusted off his jeans before he followed her out of the gazebo. Alex hadn’t really noticed, well she has, but she hadn’t put it to much though, but he had just gotten real quiet. Probably just because he was trying to remember the saying or something, it wasn’t such a big deal.

Glancing back to see if he was still following her, she was confused to see that he wasn’t right behind her. She had been sure he was right there. Quickly, she spotted him leaning up against the gazebo’s wooden structure. It was all odd, really, and slightly… peculiar? His entire body was positioned painfully and from even where she was standing she could see the veins popping out of his arms. His entire body looked tense and his fists clenched the wood; as on instinct, Alex felt like he was in trouble… but yet, her feet refused to move.

It was as if every function shut down, he thoughts unclear, her breathing quickened and she suddenly felt fear… and not for him, but of him.

And just like that it was over. He breathing become normal and body relaxed. Leaning up against the gazebo, he quickly looked over to her. She still hadn’t moved, but she was waiting for an explanation, that wasn’t going to just fly by without him telling her what was up. Personally, she felt that she had the right to know if he had some condition that he just might fall over and die out of no where. Because that had scared the shit out of her.

"Sorry," Braxton pushed himself up, rolling his shoulders as he approached her. Now he looked embarrassed, perhaps scared also. "I have this, uh, thing- condition," He quickly added, "that occasionally the muscled in my body all tense up for a short period of time.. And, um, it doesn’t happen that often.. It’s was unlucky for it to actually happen when you’re around."

"What?"

"I mean, I really don’t have to go all crazy like that, but it usually loosens up quicker… if not, it hurts a bit.

Alex wasn’t buying it, he was acting too nervous about it, "Deadly?"

He laughed, his head shaking and he walked towards her, "No, just born with it. Seriously, it usually isn’t that bad."

"That was something in his voice that told her he was only telling her an edited version of the truth. He didn’t trust her, "I see."

"Yeah, so… lunch?" he asked her, looking over to her car.

"Dude, lunch is over.. Time for class."
