Midnight Love [Chapter 12]

Here you go...
I’ll be gone in about a week, so I’m going to try and wrap this story up before then… I don’t want to leave you guys hanging all summer. I’m just saying is that If I have large gaps of space in my stories, I’m sorry… just use your imagination. =]

"Two bodies have been found dead twenty miles east of …"

"Braxton," Alex pushed him away the moment she heard the word ‘dead.’ The area that was described wasn’t to far from where they lived, just about a half hour drive. That’s not what was the worst, the worst part was this has never happened before around there. Never.

Her brain couldn’t process that information, she didn’t want to accept that two people where actually murdered not far from her home. It didn’t make her feel safe, even if she did have Braxton leaning against her.

Braxton didn’t seem to catch on as quickly as Alex had, but he probably wasn’t paying as much as attention as she was. That wasn’t saying she was paying a lot of attention to what was going on on the news, who knew why the news was even on, she was only catching fractions of what the lady was saying during his kisses.

"Mhm?" his lips still lingered against her skin as Alex sat up, but he tensed as soon as he caught on. He had never been the one to catch on to something quickly.

"…. Investigators have determined it was caused by a wild animal attack, but no news on what kind of animal it might be…."

An animal attack? Alex wasn’t sure if that was better than a murder… as devastating as it was, it had to be- right? At least there wasn’t an actual person out there killing, it was just an animal attack. So, that should mean it shouldn’t happen again, but she didn’t feel so sure.

Next to her, Braxton was absorbed into the story. Pulling herself away from the news, Alex watched as his eyes grew twice their size. He didn’t seem to take it the same way as she did, if only she knew what was going on inside his head.

"…. Police warn everyone to stay away from hiking or any other outdoor activities near the woods until they find out more. In other news…."

Just like that, Braxton’s weight next to her disappeared as he jumped to his feet. The way he reacted to the story didn’t feel right to Alex, but she pushed the thought aside as she took his hand when he paced by. Reaching by him, she snatched the remote and turned off the TV as she tugged on his hand for him to sit back down.

"Sit."

"You didn’t know who they were… did you?" The way he looked at her, there was such a desperate look in his eyes.. Alex didn’t know why he was even acting the way he was to the attack.

She shook her head, though she wasn’t sure if the lady had even mentioned the names of the victims, but the look on Braxton’s face told her not to mention that, "no."

Even so, he still didn’t sit next to her, he just stood there. Staring off towards one of her walls with a pondering expression on his face, Alex continued to hold his hand as she waited. After a long minute, she tugged back down on his hand one more time, pulling him out of his trance.

"I’m sorry… I… I have to go," Braxton pulled his hand from hers and spun away.

He left without even looking back and saying bye. Alex tossed the remote to the side, feeling quite annoyed. Annoyed because it was the first time all week she had gotten him alone, all the other times she was with him was during school or with his other friends. He had more friends than she did now and he had only been there for two months.

"He better call me or he’s dead," she muttered against the pillow she fell against, suddenly feeling selfish as she again thought about the two people.
