Midnight Love [Chapter 10]
Here you go...
She spotted him quickly, he was standing next to their lockers. During the entire weekend she hadn’t had the time to call him or anything, her mom had her busy from the moment she woke up till she was exhausted at night. It was a good thing that he happened to be her locker neighbor, that way it was a hundred times easier searching for him when she needed, wait- wanted, him.
Walking through the hallway, glancing quickly up at the clock as she passed it. There was about twenty minutes before the first bell and there seemed to be an abnormal amount of people there, usually they all came in about ten minutes before 8:30. That’s not something she cared about, Alex could care less what everyone else in the school did, they were no importance to her.
"Going to hang out with me tonight?" she asked him, coming up behind him and her hand touching the back of his hip. At her touch, Braxton spun around in surprise. When he saw her, Alex watched the color creep up into his cheeks turning them into a rosy pink.
"It was just a question, there’s no reason to get all embarrassed on me," she teased him. His reaction to her was cute and it was just the way that she wanted. She found it amusing that she made him tongue tied, it was better than the guys that would start talking right away trying to impress her. His way was way less annoying.
Braxton coughed as he recovered from the shock, "um, yeah."
A smile played at the ends of her lips as she stepped closer to him, watching his clumsy reaction. Alex made him nervous, she could tell, but in a good way obviously. Playing off her closeness by reaching over to her locker door and opening it up, she hung her keys up on a coat hook, then closed it.
"Good," she closed her locker door and turned casually towards him. This time she looked at him without worrying about him noticing her checking him over, "I like your shirt."
Tugging on the edge of his black shirt, she brought her arm back and crossed them over her chest. Braxton was wearing another band t-shirt, which reminded her that she needed to go to the mall sometime and pick some new ones herself. She really wanted a Saosin or UnderOath one right now.
"Oh, thanks," he glanced down at the front of his shirt, but quickly looked back up when he felt a tug on the necklace he was wearing, but it was just Alex.
The chain had caught her eye and she couldn’t help it, she wanted to see what was dangling from it. It was a thin medal shape of a cross, obviously not real silver. It was dull, most of the shine worn off it, but there was still something about it was made her really like it. Probably from its plainness.
"Oh," realizing now how closer she really was to him, she glanced up at him and their eyes connecting, "sorry.."
Letting the cross slip from her fingers just as the first bell rang. Breaking eye contact with him, she stepped away from him, unable to believe what she had just done. Sure, it was nothing embarrassing or something like that, but it still hit her like she had done something wrong. "I’ll… I’ll see you fourth period," Slipping past him, she joined the crowd of passing students.
----- (later that day)
"What movie?" Alex asked, looking over her shoulder to look at Braxton, who was sitting on the couch. Currently, she was lying on her stomach looking at all her DVDs, waiting for which one of them he wanted to watch. One things for sure, she learned that he’s really indecisive.
"How about… Poseidon?" Braxton finally answered, even though he made it seem like it was a difficult decision.
"Finally." With an eye roll, she grabbed the movie and placed it in. That had taken about ten minutes before he actually came up with a decision, even though she had about fifty movies down here that he could’ve chose from.
Getting on her knees, she lifted herself up and got to her feet, "that took forever.. I have to remember not to take you to a nice restaurant, we’ll be there hours just waiting for you to choose what to drink."
"But isn’t it the guy that’s suppose to bring the girl to the restaurant?" Braxton asked, his arm already resting on the back of the couch as Alex took a seat right next to him. His arm dropped and slid comfortably around her shoulders, and Alex found herself leaning into him.
"What’s Poseidon about?" Alex heard Braxton whisper in her ear.
The question surprised her, she assumed everyone had at least seen the trailers of it. When it was in theaters, it was a really popular trailer that played almost every other time when the commercials were playing. Then again, Braxton did seem like the type that would be a little behind on the whole movie and music scene.
"About a ship sinking," she told him, grabbing for the remote and pressing play, "somewhat like Titanic… without the whole romantic scenes."
"I don’t remember Titanic that much."
"Oh my god, Braxton, you got to be kidding!" Alex turned to look at him, unable to believe that he serious couldn’t remember much about Titanic. Titanic’s, like, a classic. There was nothing out that was better, okay, they might not be true, but still.
He laughed, which Alex felt through his chest by leaning up against him, "I’m serious."
"We’re going to have to change that some day," she told him, starting to relax in his arms. Alex was sure he had no idea how nervous just having his arm around her made her feel.
"Oh, really?" she could feel him shake his head also, and him laughing again.
It was difficult for Alex to concentrate on the movie. As it grew quiet between them, she could tell that he was getting into the movie while she was paying more attention to him then anything else in the room. The rhythmic pattern of his breathing was also making her tired from they way the side her body would rise slowly then fall back down with him.
Resting her head against his shoulder, she soon found herself dozing off.
"Alex…. Alex?"
She heard the whisper clearly, but she found it took a bit of effort to actually waking herself up. Alex hadn’t realized till now that she was dead tired.
"Yeah?" she asked as she tried to stifle a yawn, then smiled back as he smiled down at her.
"You fell asleep on me."
Her eyes had grown wide, realizing now that she had fallen asleep. Now she felt like a complete jerk.
"Don’t worry," he said with a shrug, "I didn’t mind it."
"I feel like an jerk… I’m sorry."
"Like I said don’t worry about it," he grinned down at her.
Alex smiled back at him, still looking at him as he went back to watch the movie. By the sounds and dialogue coming from the TV, it sounded like she had missed about 30 minutes or so of the movie. She was too embarrassed now that she was positive it wasn’t going to happen again, she was determined not to let it happen again… but she didn’t want to watch the movie.
The light from the movie splashed many different colors on Braxton’s face, from orange to blue every few seconds. It was fun to watch, seeing how it made him look different in each color that it made him. His entire face lit up from it, his eyes sparkling along with it, also along with his lip ring.
His lip ring… his lips. The thought had brought back the night of the party three nights back, when he kissed her. Then, it had been an innocent kiss on how she would react to him, but how would it be if the roles were switched around? If she was on the one to kiss him and see what his reaction was.
