"You're not dressed yet." My sister, younger than me by an hour, hissed at me. Bree was beautiful, like most vampires. She was wavy, jet-black hair that went to her waist and smoky black eyes. She was short, but had an extreme hour-glass figure and fair pale skin.

I looked down at my jeans and tank top, then studied her dark violet cocktail dress. "Guess not."

Bree sighed and dragged me into my bathroom. "Theo, would it kill you to be happy on your birthday for once? You're turning seventeen! Be happy."

I studied the sad, caramel-tanned face in the mirror. "Gram died on my birthday, Bree. This would be the fourth year."

She started to put my hair up, most of it tied at the top but with wavy strand falling down. "I know you and Gram were close, Theo, but you really need to deal with it. James did make this whole party for us." James was my step-dad. He was the main reason Mom and Dad got divorced, but Dad traveled everywhere for his job so I stayed with James and Mom, along with my four siblings.

We were squints. Ash was the oldest, dark auburn hair, football star, seriously dark tan, and dark emerald eyes, the human. Amanda was the second, frizzy light red hair that she straightened and added bleach blond highlights to, neon green eyes, and a fake tan, the witch. I was the middle child, I have a caramel tan, dark golden hair, and blue eyes that change color depending how long it's been since I drank blood. Dark means thirsty, light means full. Right now they were sitting at sapphire. Bella was second last with chocolaty brown hair to her shoulder blades, hazel eyes, and a dark tan, the wolf. Bree had dark hair and eyes, with fair white skin, the vampire.

My species is confusing. I'm 1/4 human, vampire, wolf, and witch. I don't understand how the genetics worked out.

I sighed as Bree put on some make up, blush to highlight my cheekbones and mascara with eyeshadow to bring out my eyes. Lip gloss to make my lips look even poutier. Then she forced me into a blood-red dress. It had a sweetheart neckline, sleeveless, with some rips to make it similar to a waterfall, and some sequins. It made my tan look good.

Ash walked in, wearing a black tux, grinning like Cheshire. It was his thing. "Here, sissy." He handed me a black leather jacket. We always give each other presents before we go to the party.

I asked out the guys Bree and Bella liked, gave Ash concert tickets, and gave Amanda a free day at the local spa.

I slipped on the jacket. I liked it.

"And mine." Bella gave me a pair of earrings. It started as metal red rose studs with little diamonds in the middle, the went down to three little green-painted chains with tiny thorns and ended with more roses and diamonds. I slipped them in, they weighted a lot but I liked them.

"Last and best, mine." Bree gave me a pair of sexy black boots. I grinned and slipped them on. I remembered these; I'd been eying them at the store for the last month.

Amanda slipped in and gave me a pack of gum. We sorta hated each other, but I wasn't as cruel as she was sometimes. She was wearing a hot pink cocktail dress with cotton candy stilettos. Bella was in a red cocktail dress and boots. I noticed I was the only one with a long dress.

My Mom--spitting image of Ash--poked her head in my room. "You look nice, sweety." She said to me. I blushed. "We're ready when you guys are."

I sighed. "Let's just get this over with."
