I sighed as they got out Ash's cake. He liked vanilla cake with dark green frosting. He was stuffing his face while I hung out with Phoebe.
"Okay, that bird is so cool!" She squealed. Then--since she was a shape shifter - she changed into an owl and flew onto my other shoulder. She had blong feathers with purple ones here and there, along with dark topaz eyes. You had the same hair and eyes as an animal like you in real life.
"Christ, you guys are making my neck hurt!" I moaned. Phoebe flew onto the ground and changed back to normal. I rolled my shoulders.
"Sorry, Theo!" She said, blushing and grinning.
Toby was watching. She had gray-brown hair and gray eyes. She was tanner than some, but nothing compared to my brother. "That was amusing," she said, walking over to us.
"Don't blame me if I like to morphe. Not like anyone here doesn't know about our species anyway." Phoebe ate a piece of Ash's cake and crinkled her nose. "Too many chemicals in the frosting." She took another piece and jammed it into Toby's face. "Try some."
"Thanks," Toby murmured, wiping her face off. "Bathroom that way?" She asked me, pointing down the hall. I nodded. I loved Toby like another sister, but she was too calm sometimes.
Amanda's cake was dark chocolate with cherries in the center, hot pink frosting, edible pearls, with rock candy jewels. She was a glitzy girl, even her food sparkled. I had to admit it was okay, except for the cherries. I hated whole cherries.
Matt came out of nowhere and grabbed my arm. "Come on, I have a present to give you!" He pulled me out into the driveway, to a van. "I had to use my Dad's car. I didn't want her to get sick or anything in my back seat."
He reached into the car and pulled out a husky puppy. "Aw!" I cooed, petting it. She had light blue eyes and silky black and white fur. It licked my cheek. "It is a she, right?" Matt nodded. I thought for a moment. "Raven. Her name is Raven."
"Why Raven?" Matt asked.
"Why not Raven?" I questioned.
"Decent point," he said, grinning. "Come on, I'll put her in your room while you get some cake."
I nodded and headed off to the party area again. "Five, four, three, two one!" Everybody cheered as I was officially seventeen. I blushed, not liking the attention on me, and went over to my cake. It was vanilla with chocolate marble and sprinkles, with blue butter cream icing. I jammed piece into my mouth. Phoebe took out a camera and snapped the picture before I could stop her.
Bella was soon after, with her chocolate cake with vanilla icing and rock candy sprinkles. Then Bree with strawberry cake and black butter cream icing. We all headed outside later for some fireworks to end the night.
I watched up above as brilliant colors lighted the sky.
A flash of something near the forest caught my eye. Will was suddenly screeching, digging her nails into my shoulder. I gasped, my legs folding under me. "Theo!" Matt held me up, sitting me on his knee. "What's wrong?"
Will was flying around in the air, screeching.
"What's wrong with that bird?" He asked. I pulled on his tux sleeve and pointed toward the forest.
I got up off his knee, walking towards the forest. From behind me, I heard Phoebe say, "What are those things?" I had no real clue what the answer was, but I was walking straight towards them.
