Midnight Blossoms - Prolog

Hades Van Alberict is a vampire lord that had given up on the human emotion of love. Piper is lycan hybrid new to the world outside her home, how do the two find their ways through the realm of the night?
The soft sound of footsteps, outside his room, made him stir awake. His eyes slowly opened from his death-sleep, revealing to him that it was indeed dark once more. Time to get up, he let out a sigh at having to move his stiff limbs. His body moved fluently though, poetry in motion as some mortal had put it. If he was poetry, than it would have to be pretty dark poetry. That thought made him smile, but first a shower to wash away the effects of the sleep.

It failed to dawn on him why females were attracted to him, as he studied himself in the mirror. His pale skin reflected almost all light, his build only slightly more than a high-school jockey lifting to impress the cheerleading girl. He supposed, as he examined his taut face, that the eyes indeed explained all. They were their normal crimson color, no pupils as usual, accented by the pale skin that was pulled tight against the bone underneath. He smiled, his fangs were a bit longer than usual, would have to go without smiling again. Don’t want to frighten the customers again, that’s what happened last time, now he worked at the bar downstairs.

Speaking of which, it was drawing close to opening time, and Kyu would be severely disappointed if her new bartender was late. He walked back into the darkened room, his eyes adjusting to the moonlight that shown in from the open balcony door. The room really wasn’t much to look at, only a large, overstuffed bed that dominated most of the space. There was the glass door that led out to the balcony, as well as one that led out into the bar/inn that he had come to work at. There was also the door that led out into the rest of his home, but only he knew what lie beyond that. A small smile came across his face as he heard the movements of his master stirring somewhere else in the house. His ears were pointed, a trait that little missed when he visited the mortal world. But they caught the sounds that everyone else looked over, and that kept him out of the trouble that would’ve stopped him from existing a long time ago.

He closed the door that led out to the balcony, the clear glass growing opaque as it closed the circuit with the rest of the glass panes around it. The effect, of course, brought the room to near dark, the only other light coming in from underneath the door leading out into the hall. His eyes glowed softly, two orbs that seemed to hang in the air as they pulled back the shadows of his room in his mind. But also in his mind he formed the outfit he was going to wear from the dark that surrounded him, a soft sigh leaving his lips as he felt the fabric taking shape on his cool skin. Only the best would do, for even a bartender had to impress his customers.

He opened the door and stepped out into the hall, his steps accented by the snappy dress shoes he had used to complete the outfit. He had dressed in an old style tuxedo, accented by a crimson shirt that matched the eyes which still glowed softly. The fabric seemed to shimmer underneath the candles that lit-up the hallway, even the top hat that he wore seemed to dislike the natural light. He pulled the door shut behind him, smiling as he heard the click of the lock. He was not an overly cautious man, but one had to take precautions against the beings of this day and age. He was running late as usual, but he supposed that was the price to pay to serve those that dwelled in the mortal world.

His shoes made a hollow, echoing, sound as he approached the steps that led down to the first floor. His pace slow, but steady, accented by the wooden cane that was held in his gloved right hand. Yes, he was a vampire, but he existed to serve the mortals’ needs for however long they needed him. And as he walked down the steps to the barroom he had no idea that one such mortal would tend to his, unspoken need.
