How to Microwave Corn on the Cob
Step #1: Before starting out on your delicious microwave corn on cob recipe, clean up the corn ears. Peel back the husks a bit and then remove the silks of the corn by brushing them with a vegetable brush or washing them off under running water. Now replace the husks back and tie them up with a thread.
Step #2: The next step in cooking the corn in a microwave involves soaking them in a large container. Submerge the cobbed corn completely in cold water by placing them in a large container and weigh the corn down with something. The soaking is an essential part of cooking the corn on cob. Let the corn soak in for an hour before microwaving it.
Step #3: Once the corn has been soaked with the husks in place for around 30 minutes, remove from water and allow it to dry out. Place the corn on a microwave safe plate and place it in the microwave.
Step #4: The cooking time of the corn on cob in a microwave varies and is usually based on factors like the microwave type, the freshness of the corn and other such things. However, the usual time for a ear of corn is seven minutes. If you are placing two, then you might want to increase the time by a minute or two. Once the corn is cooked, take it out of the microwave and let it sit for around fifteen minutes or so. You can also place it under cold running water and the remaining silk will come up easily.
Step #5: The last step, which is my favorite includes dressing up the corn on cob. Mostly I prefer using butter and salt. However, you can also season the cooked corn with limes, chives and pepper. If you are using butter then coat the entire corn with the butter and sprinkle on the salt and pepper. Cajun spices and grill seasoning also make for lovely toppings. Garlic or herb butter containing a mix of spices such as chives, parsley, basil, sage make for wonderful corn on cob seasoning.
If you are cooking the microwave corn on cob without the husks, then you can add the seasonings and flavors after you have taken the corn out of water. Clean the corn well to remove all the silk and the husks. Add the lime juice, salt and pepper atop it and wrap it up in a moist paper towel or a plastic wrap. Place it in the microwave for around five minutes to cook it. Remember that the cooking time will vary if the corns are frozen.
