Michael Schumacher To Race Again?

The legend, Michael Schumacher, may be back on the racing track in 2010 after all. There is a possibility that he may race for Mercedes.
Things are hotting up in Formula 1. And no, there is no racing going on at present. This is all off-track heat and movement. At the beginning of this week, we spoke about Mercedes buying off 2009 champion team Brawn GP.

Now that very team called Mercedes is gunning for Michael Schumacher to be their lead driver for the 2010 season. And why not! Mercedes was the team responsible for getting Schumacher into Formula 1. He didn't race for them, but they struck a deal with Jordan to let Michael race for them. And their present boss Ross Brawn and Michael go a long way back together. In fact, Ross Brawn was the main architect behind all of Schumacher's 7 world titles that he won racing for Benetton and Ferrari. So the prospect of these two back together with a Mercedes car seems like the best thing that can happen to the sport.

The seeds of something big were sown at a meeting between Michael, Ross Brawn and Daimler chief executive officer Dieter Zetsche at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm said, "a return was highly unlikely - but never say never". Schumacher was slated to make a comeback and race for Ferrari this year to temporarily replace an injured Felipe Massa, but a neck injury prevented him from doing so. But doctors say that the injury will be completely alright by this year end, and he can definitely race next year without any hassle.

As we speak, Schumacher is bound in a consultancy contract with Ferrari. But he is scheduled to meet Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo to talk things over and work out the best solution for a release from Ferrari. So with a release from Ferrari very likely, no nagging neck injury, a team that really wants him in their fold, and a reunion with a very successful ex-boss, things seem all set for a Schumacher-Mercedes-Ross Brawn partnership. This is such a mouth-watering prospect for the sport of Formula One. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
