MIchael Jackson's Will to be Filed in Court on Wednesday

Despite early reports to the contrary, Michael Jackson did have a will and it is going to be filed in a California court later today.
The details of Michael Jackson's will, originally drafted in 2002, are still unclear at this point. Jackson's longtime lawyer, John Branca, and family friend John McClain are named as executors of Jackson's estate. It is believed that the will names Jackson's mother as legal guardian of his three children and that the majority of his assets are to be placed in a trust. Because the family was not aware of the will - or not certain of its whereabouts - Jackson's parents initiated legal proceedings to ensure legal guardianship of the children.

A temporary guardianship was granted to Jackson's mother and that will likely remain in force until a judge rules on the directives of the will. What will be interesting at this point is the exact directives of the will and how any assets are to be controlled moving forward. If his parents are not named as controlling principals of his will, there may be some wrangling to try to gain access to the substantial assets that the estate is believed to hold.

It is believed that plans are in the works for a public memorial service for Michael Jackson - at least part of which will likely take place at the Neverland Ranch. There is also some speculation as to whether or not Jackson will be buried at the ranch, although California law prohibits such a burial at this time.

Stories are now emerging that Jackson was seeking powerful sedatives to combat a persistent insomnia problem he was facing in recent weeks. It is unclear who may have been supplying him with these types of drugs and whether or not his personal physician may be in any way criminally responsible for his death.
