Mexican Drinks

We all are fond of them and have had more than a couple of Mexican drinks, if you drink socially that is. Here I have some recipes for you,alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Read on to know how to make yourself a perfect drink.
Mexico the land of amazing tourist destinations, beautiful people, sombreros, and of course all the lovely cocktails apart from the tequila. Well Mexican drinks are not just for beautiful evenings, there are also many nonalcoholic ones which you can enjoy and share it with the whole family, kids and adults. These are the best mixed drinks one could ever have, perfect traditional to make your day or evening. The Mexicans sure know how to make a perfect drink whether alcoholic or not. Here I have a few recipes for you.

Alcoholic Mexican Drinks

Classic Margarita
Ingredients
  • Tequila - 2 ounces (reposado or blanco)
  • Cointreau - 1 ounce
  • Freshly squeezed lime juice - 1 ounce
  • Salt
Method
Mix the tequila, Cointreau, lime juice using a shaker for cocktails. Use ice as well. Take a margarita glass and moisten it's rim with water or lime juice. Invert the glass into salt so that it gets lined with the salt. Shake the drink and strain it into the glass carefully. Your drink is ready.

Michelada - Mexican Beer Cocktail
Ingredients
  • a Mexican Beer (dark)
  • Coarse Salt
  • Chili sauce such as Tabasco or Tapatio
  • Soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce (just a dash)
  • A beer mug and ice
Method
Salt the rim of the glass by moistening it with water or lime juice. Fill half the glass with ice and pour in the lime juice, tabasco, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Mix these well and top the rest half with beer. Put a lime wedge on the rim and serve chilled.

Mexican Colada
Ingredients
  • Tequila - 1 to 1.5oz
  • Coffee liqueur - 1/4th oz
  • Pineapple juice - 2oz
  • Coconut cream - 1/4thoz
  • Cream - 3/4thoz
Method
Mix the tequila, coffee liqueur, pineapple juice, coconut cream, cream over ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain this into a tall glass and serve with crushed ice.

Non Alcoholic Mexican Drinks

Horchata
Ingredients
  • Rice (long grains) - 1 cup
  • Water - 5 cups
  • Cinnamon stick - ½
  • Sugar - ½ cup
  • Milk - ½ cup
  • Vanilla Extract - ½ tablespoon
Method
Blend the rice and water for a minute. Let this mixture stand at room temperature for around 2 -3 hours. Strain the rice water into a pitcher. Add milk, vanilla, cinnamon and sugar to the rice water and stir well. Serve on ice.

Aqua Fresca with Fruits and Citrus Juice
Ingredients
  • Water - 4 cups
  • Sugar or its equivalent like honey - 1/4th cup
  • Lime juice - 2 teaspoons
  • Fresh fruits - 2 cups peeled and chopped
  • Lime wedges
Method
Blend the fruits along with water, strain it into a pitcher. Add the lime juice, sugar and stir well. Garnish it with a lime wedge and serve it with ice.

These were the simplest of the recipes, that are so easy to make that you won't have to spend too much time making getting them right. They look lovely and colorful and therefore more tempting. If you do have a family party, you could enjoy your margaritas while the kids enjoy their Aqua Fresca.
