Methods of Wild Bird Identification:
A trip to the nearby woods will reveal the variety of wild birds. From dazzling shades of blue to beautiful green, the overall appearances can impress any bird lover! Their fascinating colors and shapes is surely a delight to watch. Before I begin with methods of identification, remember to equip yourself with a good pair of binoculars.

Once you have sharpened your powers of observation, you need to think about the shape and size of the bird. The moment you notice any bird nestled at a place somewhere close to you, observe the details in the shape of the bird. Make a quick comparison among the common species. Is it the size of a robin? Or does it belong to large sized birds? Once you have made a mark of this, you need to observe some other details. This includes things such as wingspan and its beak size and shape. Is the beak curved or straight? Long or short? The shape and length of the tail can also reveal many intricate details. This is one of the most important steps in wild bird identification.

Observe the colors of the birds. This is one of the most easiest steps in wild bird identification. The splash of colors on the body of a bird or even a patch can help to gain more information about the species. Look for colored shapes or patches in circles or bands on the body of the bird.

Yet another important factor about wild bird identification is their behavior patterns. You need to note down the way it flies or glides, how it searches for food and other basic details. For example, some birds swoop down, whereas a few jump around, when on the ground.

Habitat plays an important role in wild bird identification. You need to observe how it moves around, when on the ground. Some may even enter in the water. Others prefer to loiter around. Study all these details to help you know more about the species.

You also need to pay attention to the bird calls. There are some that call out after a particular period of time. There are others that sing beautiful 'songs'. These songs or calls will help you with the proper identification of the birds.

Always carry a book with you while you are in the wild. Note down your observations, so that you can remember things with ease. A camera is also an added advantage. So, pack your bags and gear up to enjoy your birdwatching sessions! Have fun!
