Nevertheless, hair growth on our body is natural and it differs from one body part to another. And today, hair removal is not considered a taboo as it was probably in some primitive cultures. So one can always get rid of the unwanted hair growth. However, crude or superficial it may sound, removing unwanted hair could help some individuals present themselves better in their social circles.

Hair Removal Methods

Plucking: It involves plucking your hair with tweezers. It is a lengthy process. Moreover, the length of the hair should be long enough to be gripped by the tweezer.

Waxing: This method can remove large portion of hair at a stretch. It is a very effective method if you want to get rid of hair on your hands and legs. In waxing, wax is spread on the skin and after the wax cools down over the hair, it is removed. As it is removed, the wax pulls the hair along with it.

Shaving: Shaving is a temporary hair removal method, by using a razor. It cuts the hair just at the surface. Moisturizers should be applied before you shave your hair off.

Laser Hair Removal: Laser technology is a very recent development as far as hair removal is concerned. However, in addition to that, it is not a permanent hair removal method. Here, the lights are emitted at different wavelengths, pulse widths and energy outputs. It is believed that this hair removal method is suitable for those with light skin and dark hair.

Hair Removal with Depilatories: A chemical called thioglycolate mixed with sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide is used in this method. It actually melts the hair which rids the skin off hair. However, disulfide bonds, chemical bonds holding skin and hair cells together are cut off by thioglycolate. It should be used with discretion as it can cause skin irritation.

Hair Removal with Vaniqa: Vaniqa is a tropical cream, approved by the FDA. It is not available without prescription. The main constituent of Vaniqa is Eflornithine hydrochloride. It obstructs and prohibits the enzyme which cell functions necessary for the hair growth.

Threading: It is one of the safest bets to remove hair. It is sans chemicals, side-effects and is hygienic. This method uses a thread to remove the unwanted hair. The thread is twisted and the hair is gripped in a mini lasso and then pulled out of the hair follicle. It is used by most women for keeping their eyebrows in that perfect shape. It does not consume a lot of time as well.

Electrolysis: It involves applying an electrical current to the hair follicle root by inserting a needle into the hair follicle. This results into burning of hair root, which further inhibits the hair growth. It is a permanent method of hair removal though, it has a few drawbacks. This method continues over a period of time ranging from a few months to probably 2 years.

Sugaring or Epilation is also another method of hair removal where sugar, honey and lemon are used in the form of a paste.

These are a few of the hair removal methods. Plucking, threading, waxing and probably laser hair removal are the most common methods of hair removal. It is totally an individual's prerogative to pick the one which suits him or her the most.
