Metal Platform Bed Assembly Instructions
These metal platform beds are made by a company called Amisco located in L'islet, Quebec, Canada. Their approach has always been to use North American cold rolled steel and incorporate it into the manufacturing of steel beds. In this article we'll take a look at the materials that go into these beds piece by piece and how they are assembled using step by step text instructions describing the assembly process. If you own one of these beds or just need some assistance in putting one together, I hope you'll find this article useful.
Amisco beds are separated into several parts. The primary parts include a headboard, footboard and two rails. The headboard and footboard will feature pre-drilled holes on the lower legs of these pieces with threads welded into them which will accept the provided bolts. The headboard and footboard are created using tubular steel which allows Amisco to bend and shape these pieces into any design they want. Additional ornate pieces can also be welded into these parts to create different looks. Various color options can be chosen for just the headboard and footboard.
Rails for these beds are manufactured from steel and are covered in flat black finish. These rails are universal in design in that they can be connected to any Amisco headboard and footboard style. Two holes are drilled in each end through the metal to allow the individual bolts to be threaded through and into the headboard and footboards pre-drilled holes. The headboards and footboards will typically have three different height settings that you can choose from to setup your bed. The top most setting will be for just a mattress. The middle setting is for thicker mattresses that exceed 12 inches. The bottom most setting for a mattress/box spring combinations. You'll have to decide which setting it best for you when choosing to install the rails into these pieces.
Once the headboard and footboard have been connected to the rails you're ready to install the steel crossbars. These crossbars are steel bars that install between the two side rails width wise. Special nylon clips are provided that allow the steel bar to fit into them and they clip to the side rails. A steel screw is inserted down through the top of the nylon clip which secures it better to the rail (but do not secure these all the way quite yet). Spacing will be important as over the top of these cross bars will be placed the sheets of masonite paneling. These panels are centered up on the cross bars so that two panels will touch each other over each crossbar. The ends of the panels are tucked beneath the nylon clips before the screw that goes down through the top is secured. Once all of the crossbars and panels are in place then it is time to go ahead and secure the steel screws down through the nylon clips.
If your mattress is heavy there is provided at least one center support leg that bolts through the steel crossbars in the middle of the bed. Certain size beds may come with more of these legs but generally just one is included. These legs are adjustable by a screw in the side of the leg and the leg consists of two separate tubes which can be fitted in different configurations based on how you setup your bed.
In this article we examined the materials used and metal bed assembly for an Amisco brand bed. We looked at the parts of the bed which included the headboard, footboard and two rails and how they went together. We also examined the foundation assembly and how the crossbars, masonite panels and nylon clips would be used to create the platform of the bed. This article will hopefully be a good resource for anyone who has lost their instructions over the years or for someone who needs to know the basics of putting one of these beds together but isn't immediately sure how to do that with the parts in front of them.
