Metal Art Signs - Metal Artwork

This article defines and explores metal art signs. Metal artwork can be fabricated in many different types of metal art signs.
One important aspect of metal arts signs, which all buyers should carefully look into is fabrication. If you are planning on getting your own metal art sign, it is highly advised that you get yourself familiar with some of the most common fabrication types and processes.

One fabrication technique for metal art signs is soft or sharp embossing. Embossing is a process of stamping your metal signs which raises your artwork and helps it veer away from the normally flat surface. Embossing creates an interesting and attractive sign, while making it more rigid and stronger. Soft embossing is usually used for larger signs. The idea is to create an artwork in a "pillow-like" appearance. More standard soft embossing uses one level of artwork. Another embossing strategy, is the sharp embossing. This type is best for better for more detailed artworks, usually those which look like small nameplates. The artist stamps the artwork to create a sharp and crisp edge.

Another process for fabricating metal art signs is the "stamped frame." Just like embossing, the artist stamps the metal sign using a hard tooling on the edge to achieve a picture window. This makes a clean frame which serves as a border around the artwork. Signs with borders usually appear to be more stylish and refined as compared to those with out. This type of border is best for signs in indoor environments, which may need a higher quality than those which are placed in showrooms. In some cases, the stamped frame is combined with the two embossing techniques to create a better appeal.

Metal art signs can also be fabricated through die-cutting. Not all designs come in standard signs. Squares and rectangles are samples of a standard sign and so they are easier to make. In cases of circles or ovals, artists use the process of die-cutting. Die-cutting needs more attention and detail. Products made through die-cutting usually look more attractive and interesting as compared to straight edge signs. This process of fabrication may be more costly as compared to the first two mentioned above.

Flanging and hemming are two other processes used to fabricate metal art signs. This technique refers to how the sign is folded or bent. When you hem the artwork, you create an 180° fold. This is used for plaque signs which have inserted cardboard backers. A flange, on the other hand, is used for double-face signs.

Color bleeds can also fabricate your metal art signs to create an image run-off or background color on the sign edges in the absence of a border. To achieve an image run-off, the artist will print the artwork on a larger material and trim all edges to make the color show at the sign edges.

Keep these different fabrication techniques in mind to help you pick only the best metal art sign for your gates, ranches or wherever you wish to place them.
