Men and Yeast Infections - The Facts

Do not let yourself feel lulled by the false information that men cannot get yeast infections. They can, the Candida infection is not just one that infects women and children. Men can just as easily be affected from situations like an immune system that has been compromised, diabetes, and contact with an infected sexual partner. Another cause is the prolonged use of antibiotics as this kills all the bacteria in a person's body, male or female, which means the good bacteria that were controlling the growth of the Candida are no longer there to do their job, and so the fungus over grows and becomes a yeast infection.

There are several places a man can develop a yeast infection; the buttocks, the penis, the groin, the armpits and anywhere else there are skin folds. As well as the reasons behind a yeast infection mentioned above a man might develop one from overly sweating, wearing damp or wet clothing for long periods. The folds of skin are a place prone to infection because the sweat collects there and the fungus likes warm and damp places. It is also possible for men to develop systemic Candidiasis, a nasty condition where the yeast enters the bloodstream and several organs can be affected.

When looking at male symptoms you will find that many are very similar if not the same, as the ones women suffer from. Itchiness, burning, scaly skin, dryness, inflammation are all the most common symptoms of a Candida infection. If it is Thrush (of the mouth) there may be white patches that are painful on the tongue, and it is very painful and difficult to eat or drink or even just swallow.
