It is always right now
Memory is a unknown organ. Lacking it, it would be the same as if we were existing in a nonstop present. It would permanently be right NOW, and we would have no former time. We may not even have a good deal of a future since when we expect the future we are calling on memories too and without our memory to help us we would be unable to prepare ahead very effectively. The whole thing would be brand new and uncommon all the time.

Some of us think that would be very cool! On the other hand it would also be enormously tiring because we would be continually having to work out a way to appreciate what we are experiencing or solve a problem we are encountering and then BANG - it would all have GONE. So that next time we find that circumstance we have nothing to rely on in our brains. We have to start from the beginning again; fantastically time and energy consuming.

We have to have our memory and it is like a muscle. It doesn’t look like a muscle - but it behaves like one. The extra times you make use of it the more it develops and gets stronger and able to carry lots of weight - in this case, of course, the weight is information. So - if you don’t use it, you lose it. If you do use it, you keep it.
