Memory Foam Study Reveals If Tempurpedic Beats Bergad & Costco
I discuss findings from our memory foam mattress research regarding how the Tempurpedic brand compares to competitor brands.
Does the more expensive Tempur-pedic mattress provide the best comfort and durability among memory foam mattresses.
To answer this question, among others, my research team gathered data from over 1,000 memory foam bed owners to learn what they think of their beds and their ownership experiences. What the results show is interesting.
The focus of our memory foam bed research and analysis was on Tempur-pedic, Bergad/Isoform, and Costco/Sleep Innovations/Novaform brands. In regard to price, Tempurpedic is the most expensive, followed by Bergad/Isoform and Costco/Sleep Innovations/Novaform, respectively.
Comfort
Let’s face it. Comfort is far and away the most important thing when it comes to a mattress. If the mattress does not measure up comfort-wise, nothing else matters.
When it comes to comfort, all of the memory foam beds in our research did well. Somewhat surprisingly, however, Tempurpedic rated somewhat behind the two less expensive brands.
Specifically, about 85% of Bergad / Isoform owners indicated that their bed was comfortable. About 82% of Costco/Sleep Innovations/Novaform owners said that their mattress was comfortable, and 79% of Tempur-pedic owners said that their bed was comfortable.
So it would appear that you don't necessarily need to pay a premium to get good comfort. This, by the way, is a general rule for all mattress types, not just memory foam beds, according to our related research.
Durability
In regard to durability or longevity, you may think that the less expensive memory foam bed brands will be easily beaten by Tempur-pedic. Not so.
According to our findings, about 10% of both Tempur-pedic and Costco/Sleep Innovations/Novaform mattress owners reported premature sagging of the bed or the creation of peaks and valleys. Bergad / Isoform mattresses performed better with a smaller percentage of owners reporting these kinds of problems. Of course, the more durable a bed is, the more likely it will retain its comfort level over time.
What you need to know
Tempur-pedic is a fine memory foam bed brand, but there are less pricey alternatives that can provide as good, and possibly better, comfort and longevity, according to our extensive research.
