Melrose Place Coming Back on CW

The latest Hollywood regurgitation of a previous money-maker is going to be Melrose Place on the CW. But this time there is some real talent behind the camera.
If you've been following the new Beverly Hills 90210 creation, you know that the show doesn't quite pack the punch or originality of the first one. Complete with original characters now playing "adult" roles on the show, it seems like they're trying to do a little bit too much with too little. It took the original 90210 years to get into really sophisticated and complicated plot twists, while its original episodes were simply "more honest than we were used to" depictions of high school life in an affluent zip code.

It's as if duplicating a previous concept just isn't good enough anymore. Somehow the new young characters need to have the sensibilities of middle-aged adults and begin immediately exploring difficult and often over-the-top issues and scenarios that most viewers simply can't relate to.

But that's all about to change with the re-emergence of Melrose Place on the CW. The new show will have an Oscar winning director, Davis Guggenheim, who is no stranger to the format, having guided Party of Five to a post Melrose-original run to a place in the hearts of 90s viewers.

Guggenheim won his Oscar for his work in An Inconvenient Truth and also has worked on such hits as 24 and Deadwood. The only question that remains is how the original cast will be re-worked into the new plot. Heather Locklear could play the prowling cougar of Melrose Place.
