Melanie Brown Names Baby After Eddie Murphy
Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown has confirmed that she named her daughter after Eddie Murphy, who she says fathered the child.

Brown, 31, confirmed that she named her daughter Angel Iris Murphy Brown. A friend of the singer's said, "Melanie spent awhile deciding on the baby's name. It was inspired by a number of things." Brown released a statement Tuesday through her London reps that explained her daughter's name. The statement read, "Angel, as she was my little angel throughout my pregnancy. Iris, as its my grandma's name, Murphy because he's the dad and Brown because I'm the mum!"
The decision to name the baby after Murphy was pretty bold. Brown has always maintained that Brown is the father of the baby, but last December he questioned the paternity during an interview and said, "I don't know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test." Angel Iris Murphy Brown made her debut on Murphy's 46th birthday, April 3, at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica. Brown listed Murphy as the father on the birth certificate. Murphy has yet to comment on the birth of the child. He seemed pretty adamant that he was not the father, but Brown's actions seem to point to the fact that he is. She was shocked when he questioned the baby's paternity and said there was "absolutely no question" that Murphy was the baby's father.
Brown and Murphy briefly dated after his divorce from Nicole Mitchell was finalized in April. The couple reportedly broke up in October and Murphy began seeing Babyface's ex-wife, Tracey Edmunds. In March Edmunds said, "There'll be a paternity test and if it is his then he'll be responsible." Oh...how nice! This is Brown's second child. She has an 8-year old daughter, Phoenix Chi, with her ex-husband former back-up dancer Jimmy Gulzar.
