Mel Gibson's Agency Leaves Him Over Money, Not Morals

Mel Gibson has heaps of trouble lately, but news that his agency left him over moral concerns are a bit off base.
While William Morris Endeavor may have been legitimately appalled at its client's behavior, evidence points firmly to the fact that the agency dropped Mel Gibson not so much because of his behavior but because of financial motivations. A William Morris source noted, "There's nothing to do for Mel Gibson at the Moment. No one will touch him with a 10-foot pole. He'll make his own movies, but you don't commission those anyway."

While Hollywood certainly has its share of criminals who still stick around to act and line the pockets of agents with cash, Mel Gibson has vaulted into the all-time stratosphere of toxic performers. His relationship with the public is almost non-existent now, as he has repeatedly made anti-Semitic and bigoted comments that have made the news. Said one studio chief, "I wouldn't make a movie with him if he were the last actor on the plant. There were five minutes when we were saying, 'Maybe we should give this guy a break,' and that's gone. No one will touch him."

Despite that, Gibson can probably still be quite successful making his own movies. A veteran producer even noted, "I've thought for a while that he was over as an actor no matter what because of his age. But if he were to make 'The Passion of the Christ' today, it wouldn't do a dime less business." On top of all the problems, it has been noted by several people that Gibson has looked a bit unhealthy of late on shoots. Alan Nierob, spokesman for Gibson, noted of his client that he's "healthy for a guy who's an alcoholic who's smoked for 40 years." Well, OK then.
