Brown has come forward saying that there is no doubt that Murphy is the father of her baby after his comments suggesting otherwise. Brown released a statement Thursday that read, "I am obviously upset and distressed by some of the comments made by Eddie Murphy to the media. I have no idea why anybody would want to conduct themselves in this kind of manner about such a personal matter in such a public way. My main concern is for the well being of my seven-year old daughter Phoenix and of course the baby. I was astonished at what Eddie said – there is absolutely no question that Eddie is the father."

Murphy recently did an interview which aired on the Dutch TV show RTL Boulevard and in the interview Murphy is questioned about his relationship with Brown and the impending birth of their child. Murphy said, "You’re being presumptuous because we’re not together anymore. And I don’t know whose child that is, until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions, sir." Reportedly, Brown didn’t even know that they had broken up until friends phoned to tell her about the interview.

Murphy and Brown began seeing each other in June, shortly after he divorced his wife of years twelve-years, Nicole Mitchell. Just last week she spoke of her relationship with Murphy saying they are "in love" and how excited she was to "have this baby." Murphy obviously has a different idea because he showed up at the Dreamgirls premier with new ladylove, Tracey Edmonds, on his arm. When asked about their relationship Edmonds responded that they have been seeing each other for about a "month and a half." A source close to Brown said, "This was extraordinarily brazen what he did. If he had fallen in love with somebody else, that would have been pretty bad anyway, but to wheel her out in public for a deliberate photo op, when Melanie is pregnant! That’s a rat, frankly!"
