Medium-Sized Dogs That Do Not Shed

While choosing a dog, most of us want dogs that do not shed, and ones that don't bark a lot, isn't it? Then again, we prefer medium-sized dogs than toy sized ones. Non-shedding, medium-sized dogs are not common. However, there are a few varieties, ones that will tempt even the mysophobes!
When you see a really cute dog at your neighbor's or friend's house, you're tempted to bring one for yourself, isn't it? Anyone would be! After all, they are affectionate, loyal and provide amazing company. But still, some of us hesitate to keep them as pets. And, one of the major reasons for this, is the extensive grooming they require. Even if you groom them twice a day, they still tend to shed! However, it is not so with all the dogs; there are some breeds that don't shed at all. In fact, there are some breeds of dogs which are hairless!

List of Medium-Sized Dogs that Don't Shed

American Hairless Terrier
The name of this dog is self-explanatory, isn't it? These dogs do not have any hair on their body, so there is no question of shedding. And talking about the size, American Hairless Terriers grow up to fifteen inches. As these dogs do not have hair, they need to be protected from the sun, and also from cold weather. As they are hairless, you will have to care more about scratches and cuts, which will be often. Usually, the hair helps in protecting dogs from small, tiny cuts. American Hairless Terriers are said to be alert and playful dogs. They are also good with children. One peculiar quality of these dogs is that they sweat when they are scared, or suddenly feel very hot! They are said to be the best breed of dogs for people with allergies.

Hairless Chinese Crested
Hairless Chinese Crested are hairless, except for their head, feet and tail! They have hair near their ears, which look exactly like pony tails! And their feet look like they have worn furry socks! Chinese Crested do not require any grooming, as they do not have any doggy odor. These dogs are lovable and good with children as well as other pets. These hairless dogs will get very attached to you, but you need to socialize with them as there is a possibility of them becoming timid.

Bedlington Terrier
If you look at this dog from a distance, you are likely to mistaken it for a lamb! Bedlington Terriers are one of the medium-sized dogs that don't shed. They have a thin coat of hair which does not shed at all. Their hind legs are longer than their front legs, which adds to their 'sheepish' looks. Bedlington Terriers not only do not get along with their family members, but also with strangers! Though they look meek, they are terrifying fighters, if challenged. So they need to be trained, if they have to be kept with other dogs.

Wirehaired Pointing Griffon
This is one of the hunting dogs that don't shed. These dogs are strong and muscular. They have hair below their chin, which looks like a beard. They also have a mustache. Though Wirehaired Pointing Griffons are hunting dogs, they make excellent house pets; in fact, they are always eager to please their masters! In case of grooming, not much is required, however you need to strip their hair to allow new hair to grow.

Basenji
These dogs are one of the perfect dogs available, not only because they don't shed, but also because they do not bark! Basenjis are known as 'barkless dogs'! You also do not need to worry about grooming a Basenji, as it cleans itself, just like a cat. Another unique characteristic of Basenjis is that, unlike other dogs, these dogs hate water!

Kerry Blue Terrier
Kerry Blue Terriers have a long body, which is very proportionate. They have a thin coat on their body, which looks more like wool. Like Griffons, Kerry Blue Terriers also have a beard. They also have a short tail. Kerry Blue Terriers are famous for making people laugh, with their funny movements. They shed very little hair. But, it is necessary to remove hair from their ear canal, to avoid infection.

Few more dogs that can be added to the above list are Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, Miniature Goldendoodle, Glen of Imaal Terrier or Irish and Terrier.
