"May You Live in Interesting Times"
The economic situation is not the end of the road. And even if it does cause genuine changes in your affairs, which that is happening all over the world, that’s no big issue. What is the big issue is, what are you going to do about it? How are you going to respond?
These are tough times! The Chinese have a blessing, which some people take as a curse, but the statement is "May you live in interesting times." One thing for sure, you do! So when you hear whiners moaning and complaining about the economy, reframe it. These are interesting times! Times that can make you someone you would never have been without the economic stimulus package you’ve received.
I am here to tell you that you have the ability, not just to survive, but to thrive. I believe it was Robert Schuler, and if I’m wrong, forgive me, but I believe it was him who wrote the book titled "Tough Times Don’t Last, Tough People Do". That’s the whole thing, it gives you a chance to call upon your resources, your reserves.
You’re hearing me refer to this concept frequently because we’re getting the same kind of questions from people. But the economic situation is not the end of the road. And even if it does cause genuine changes in your affairs, which that is happening all over the world, that’s no big issue.
What is the big issue is, what are you going to do about it? How are you going to respond?
You’re going to keep your good attitude, you’re going to go figure out a new plan and you’re going to go put it into motion, that’s what you’re going to do. If people aren’t spending on what you were selling formerly, you’ll adapt!
Because you know that you have the ability to choose your own reaction to anything that happens. And you have the ability to go into resourcefulness or into down mode. I’m reminded of another statement and it’s basically this, and it’s so true and you know it to be true, "Some people have a thousand excuses why something won’t work, only to get passed by a person with a single reason why it will."
And that’s what I wish for you. That passion that drives you to see into the future by creating it, to overcome the temporary setbacks, the changes in the terrain that happen to you, same as they happen to everybody. Keep your attitude right and go about achieving.
Engage. Enjoy and build something in these interesting times!
