Massachusetts

Massachusetts travel and tourism information & guide on vacation spots and destinations in Massachusetts state. Massachusetts has made contributions to the nation far greater than its size might suggest. The state is the sixth smallest in area, and is known legally as a commonwealth. It was explored in the 16th and 17th centuries and was permanently settled at Plymouth in 1620. One of the thirteen original states, it was the sixth to ratify the Constitution. Boston, the capital, is also the de facto capital of New England. The name 'Massachusetts' is of Algonquian origin and means "near the great hill." Like many of its neighboring states, Massachusetts is working hard to maintain progress through recent economic difficulties.
