These days, frozen or dehydrated mashed potatoes are easily available in the supermarkets. Mashed potatoes are also known as 'whipped potatoes'. Freshly boiled potatoes can be whipped with a hand beater. You may add butter, vegetable oil, milk or cream to enhance the flavor and texture of whipped potatoes. Buttery Mashed Potato Recipe
Serves 4
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and quartered length-wise.
- 3 tbsp heavy cream.
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp milk
- Salt
- Pepper
- Put the cut potatoes into a saucepan.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon salt.
- Pour water until potatoes are covered.
- Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer.
- Cover the pan for 15-20 minutes.
- When a fork can easily be poked through them, be sure that they are cooked well.
- Drain water from potatoes.
- Warm cream and melt butter, together, either in microwave or in a pan on the stove.
- Put hot potatoes into a bowl and pour cream and melted butter.
- Use potato masher to mash the potatoes.
- Use a strong spoon to beat further, adding milk to achieve the consistency you desire. Over-beating can make the potatoes gluey.
- Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
