Mark Wahlberg Removing Tattoos for Kids

Mark Wahlberg told Today's Matt Lauer that he brings his children to watch his tattoo removals, in the hopes that it will dissuade them from getting tattoos of their own.
Mark Wahlberg reinforced the public perception that he has grown into a professional entertainer and devoted father during an appearance on the Today Show with Matt Lauer. Wahlberg was on set to promote his new film Contraband, but most of the talk with Lauer centered on his personal transformation from a one-time bad boy and womanizer into the doting father and husband that he appears to have become.

Wahlberg told Lauer a now-well-known story that he brings his kids to watch the painful process of having his tattoos removed. He said that he doesn't want his kids to get tattoos and that he wants them to understand how painful it is to "undo" that kind of mistake later in life. Wahlberg said that he had about 6 or 7 tattoos in total and that getting them removed was, in fact, quite painful.

He went on to explain to Lauer that he doesn't want his kids to pursue careers in entertainment, and he said that is a driving force for his entrepreneurial ventures outside Hollywood. He wants to have several businesses in place for his kids to potentially continue as adults. Wahlberg admitted that he would support his kids if they "really, really wanted" to pursue a career in Hollywood, but it's obviously not something that he wants for them.

Wahlberg explained to Lauer that his most important role in life is as a father and husband, and that no amount of success in Hollywood or his business ventures matter if he fails in his family roles.
