Smirnoff’s spokesperson confirmed the split in a statement that read, "Karina has parted ways with her two year relationship with Mario Lopez. The relationship wasn’t heading in the right direction." Lopez said in a statement via his rep, "Karina and I have the utmost respect for each other. She is a phenomenal and talented woman. I support her always and feel blessed to have her in my life." The couple met in 2006 when they were partners on the third season of Dancing with the Stars. They came in second on the show, but found romance. Smirnoff reportedly moved in with Lopez a few months later, but the couple continued to keep their relationship on the down low.
In April, it was reported that the couple had called it quits on their relationship and that she had had an affair with her latest DWTS partner, Mario. Both Lopez and Smirnoff denied the break-up rumors and insisted that they were "going strong." Smirnoff told E! News correspondent and DWTS co-host Samantha Harris, "Mario [Lopez] and I are fine. Everything’s good." Last month the couple were spotted vacationing in Miami and looked like a very happy couple in love. Guess things aren’t always how they seem…
Lopez recently hosted the MTV reality show Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew is currently starring in the Broadway production of A Chorus Line. The former Saved By The Bell star is also reportedly getting ready to begin touring to promote his new book Mario Lopez’s Knockout Fitness. Smirnoff just wrapped season six of DWTS.
