Marine Biome Plants

Wondering what are the marine biome plants? Read this article as it unveils all the facts about the marine biome and its plants...
To get to know what are the marine biome plants, we have to start from the beginning. At first one has to understand what are the biomes? Biome is a distinct area that is defined as a large natural area that consists of things having similar ecological characteristics. The biome consist of each and everything present in that particular area. They are plants, animals, microorganisms, invertebrates and fungi as well. Mother earth consists of 30 biomes.

Let aside all the others, we are discussing here the marine biome and plants that are there in the marine biome. Well, as a matter of fact, marine biome covers more than 70% of the world, that makes it the largest biome of the universe. With such a wide coverage area, there must be numerous marine biome plants and animals there, to catch our interest!

Marine Biome
Marine biome is as vast as far the imagination goes. It consists of all the oceans, namely, Antarctic ocean, Atlantic ocean, Pacific ocean, Arctic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. Along with these, marine biome also consist of the other smaller water parts, like bays and gulfs. Marine biome is also the largest on the planet as it consists of more than 80% of the world's habitats. Along with oceans, marine biome can be divided into several other classes like coral reefs and estuaries.

There are various zones of the marine biome, that are equally diverse and complex with plenty of living organisms and marine biome plants. These zones are, namely, inter-tidal zone, pelagic zone, benthic zone and the abyssal zone. Due to the diversity of the marine biome zones, it is obvious that there is a vast diversity when it comes to these plants.

Marine Biome Plants
As I said earlier, marine biome plant life is deeply associated with the zones of the marine biome. Coastal areas of the marine biome have very less number of plants and animals, while the bottoms are rich with them. These are the places where the coral reefs are found in plenty. Coral reefs are somewhat like the plants, meaning, they are photosynthetic and can get their own food by it and like animals, on the other hand, as they can catch microorganisms as food with help of their tentacles. There are several sorts of sea weeds that are found floating on the water surface, due to their air bladders.

Other than coral reefs, there are various types of algae, several sea grasses, phytoplankton, seaweeds, mangroves, sea anemones and marsh grasses, sea cabbage, etc., that are found in the estuaries, which is a part of the marine biome. If we decide to classify the plants, then they can be divided as sea weed, coral weed and various types of kelp. There are various flowering plants as well, that basically belong to the families Posidoniaceae, Cymodoceaceae, Zosteraceae and or Hydrocharitaceae. Some of these marine species of plants are not visible through the naked eye.

Marine biome plants started catching attention in the early days of the discovery of scuba-diving. It is then that the saltwater plants and deep water plants were troubled for commercial purposes. Climate and the location of the marine biome is an important deciding factor in plant adaptation.

Marine biome plants are the main source of life for many marine species of animals and thousands of microorganisms. Hence they are the main part of the marine biome as well.
