Osmond, 48, claims that Miley’s parents should have protected their daughter and said that Papa Cyrus should not have left his inexperienced daughter with photog Annie Leibovitz. Osmond said, "My parents never, never left us alone. We always had some form of guardian or something with us, a guardian that would represent what they would have done. But, in (Miley’s) case, her dad stepped out and that’s when it happened. How do you say no to somebody like Annie Leibovitz when you’re a little girl? It’s an interesting thing that happened with her."

Cyrus did a photo shoot with famed photographer Leibovitz for Vanity Fair. The pictures of the Hannah Montana star posing in a bed only covered by a sheet were released in late April and Cyrus released a statement saying that she was embarrassed by the photos. The statement read, "My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy. For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with Annie [Leibovitz]. I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed."

It has been reported that Papa Cyrus was on set that day, but had to leave for a business appointment but her grandmother and her teacher were there when it was shot. A source said, "The photo suggests that she is [naked], but she is not. She is covered by a sheet, and beneath the sheet she is clothed. Originally, she was in a flesh-colored tank top but was asked to remove it." A rep for Vanity Fair and Leibovitz said in a statement, "Miley’s parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley."
