A source reportedly confirmed to People magazine that Carey did obtain a marriage license in Eleuthera and that she did marry rapper-actor Nick Cannon on Wednesday after dating for only two months. Reportedly to be married in the Bahamas you must be in the country for at least 48 hours, both parties must be over 16 years old, and have obtained a marriage license within 90 days of the nuptials. The ceremony reportedly took place at Carey’s private estate on Windemere Island.
The couple has not officially confirmed the marriage, but Cannon’s aunt reportedly did. Linda Cannon reportedly said, "He called and told us all about it." The couple met on the video set for Carey’s latest single Bye Bye at the end of March. Sources say that they began dating despite the fact that Carey’s rep shot down the romance rumors. In mid-April the couple looked very cozy at Da Brat’s 34th birthday party in Las Vegas. At the April 26th premiere of Carey’s new movie Tennessee the couple looked very much together and Carey was sporting a 17-carat rock sparking the engagement rumors.
A source said that the marriage idea was "very impulsive" and only a handful of people were in attendance. It has been questioned whether the marriage is just a stunt for publicity or if the two are truly in love. Only time will tell. Carey was previously married to record exec Tommy Mattola from 1993 to 1997. Cannon was previously engaged to Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks. The two got engaged after dating for only four months and split shortly after getting engaged.
